Post Information about resetting your Treo 600

First off, backup. If you lose data, it's your own fault for not having a suitable backup. And Hotsync doesn't typically backup everything. Get something like FlyBackup. I use it, it's worth the $10 to register it.

The source for this information is found on PalmOne's website, here.

Please read all of the instructions before performing the steps.

Soft Reset (reboot)

This is a simple reboot for your Treo. It doesn't delete any stored data. Before you do any of the other reset methods, this is the one to do. It can usually fix looping problem, lockup problems, and many third-party application problems.

This reset shouldn't cause any problems with your data, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have a good, recent backup of your data. It is possible that if an application on your Treo hasn't written its data properly, that specific data could be lost. Also, if there is an underlying hardware problem, you could lose data because of defects with the storage hardware or otherwise. Play it safe, make a backup.
  1. Get a small pointy object like an unfolded paperclip. On your Treo 600, you can unscrew the plastic tip of your stylus to reveal the reset tip.
  2. If you have your Treo in a case or carrier, you will need to remove it.
  3. Find the RESET hole on the back of your Treo. It will be in the middle, toward the right side. [picture]
  4. Poke the tool of your choice - paperclip, reset tip, or otherwise - into the RESET hole. Hold this for only a second, then release.
  5. The screen should blank and then briefly show a Palm or Handspring logo screen.

Hard Reset (erase)

This reset will erase all of your stored data. Unless you really want to lose all of your data, you must make a proper backup before doing this.
[picture]
  4. While holding the POWER button, the one on the top of the Treo near the antenna, poke the tool of your choice - paperclip, reset tip, or otherwise - into the RESET hole. Hold them both for a second, but only release the RESET hole. Keep holding the POWER button.
  5. The screen should show a blank, white screen.
  6. Release the POWER button.
  7. A message should appear asking if you want to reset your data. Press UP to confirm, or anything else if you have changed your mind and want to cancel.
  8. The screen might blank again for a moment.
  9. The Treo should now ask you to calibrate the stylus. If it is asking you to poke the screen at certain targets, it was successful. If it is just showing the Phone application or a list of your applications, it probably didn't work (try again).

Battery Disconnect Reset (erase)

Since you can't actually remove the battery (without disassembly of the case), Handspring/Palm has included a way to emulate battery disconnection. This reset will erase all of your stored data. Unless you really want to lose all of your data, you must make a proper backup before doing this.

This will disconnect the battery, erase all of your data, and reset the radio. After you do this, you will not be able to turn on the Treo until you have plugged it into a power source, such as a cradle, car charger, or travel charger. If you don't have access to a power source, you shouldn't do this. Get a power source first.
[picture]
  4. Hold the letters K and BACKSPACE, don't release them.
  5. Poke the tool of your choice - paperclip, reset tip, or otherwise - into the RESET hole. Hold this for only a second, then release.
  6. The screen should quickly flash white and the the Treo should turn off. The network status light near the antenna should be completely off. If so, success.
  7. Plug the Treo into the power source. Leave it there for a minute or so. When the Treo is ready, it will turn on. The screen should briefly show a Palm or Handspring logo screen and then show the calibration screen.

None of these things work on my brand new treo which froze up. Is it possible that the reset button doesn't work?

Have never tried FlyBackup , but would also strongly recommend Backupman ( http://www.bitsnbolts.com/ ).

I Have used Backupman for 2 years, and it does a GREAT job and does a COMPLETE backup. Allows for individual file restoration, or complete restore.

Very handy program.

Default backup

Rather than use a backup program you can just copy everything to your SD card, which isn't affected by any of the resets, and then just copy it back. You also have a copy of everything on your hard disk in your hot sync directories.

The point of having a backup program is that usually they can do automatic backup every several hours or even every hotsync.

When everything is working, most people tend to forget that they still need an updated backup
