Question MP3's as ringtones & ringtone mgrs

I had my Treo set up a few weeks back with MP3’s as ringtones. It was a “neat trick”, but I wasn’t too sure about the volume of the ringtone. I’ve seen a number of people look for a louder MIDI ringtone as this wasn’t sufficient.

Are you using a ringtone manager? I didn't get a chance to really try out Lightwav, but did enjoy CallFilter. What is your preference? Do you use MP3’s as ringtones? Any suggestions on LOUD ringtones?

I’m curious to hear everyone’s experiences in this area.

I had been using LW for the past few months but it has been a nightmare lately causing all kinds of resets and I can't seem to figure out why. It is a great program and MP3's as ringtones are definitley the way to go for me anyways. I make my own and the options are virtually unlimited!
For the last couple of days I've been playing with Call Filter and so far a really like it. A bit challenging to get it all set up and dialed in the way I want. There is no user guide for it. I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna buy it but I'm going to give it a few more days. I'm still getting resets even with Call Filter but only when I press ignore on an incoming call (it's very annoying). Any ideas?
I use an "old telephone" ringtone which is really pretty loud and everyone always comments on how cool it is. "Is that your phone ringing like that??" I love it!

No idea what might be causing issue w/ CallFilter. I had it installed for the full trial and never had a problem. I was using it at the same time I had LightWav installed. It probably wasn't the best idea, since I missed the opportunity to really test out LightWav. CallFilter cooperated well with my Treo 600. You might want to send them a quick email

Maybe they have a list of app's that could be causing the conflict.

    Good luck.

    Default mp3 ringer

hi fellow treo'ers, just figured i'd add my 2 cents :D . ok first i have tried lightwav and was pretty enticed with some of the features like making the ringtone real loud, which worked. however it wasn't capable of allowing me to select any mp3's that i created. so i figured let me purchase it and maybe it would allow me to do it when its licensed, well it was a total waste. it kept crashing and restarting my treo, plus it still didnt allow me to select mp3's as it describes (trashed). ok now i'm on a trial with ringo from handango.com the program is relatively simple and YES i was able to use MP3's as my ringer!. so what i do is i import an mp3 song with good beats to mac audio software called bias peak. and from there im able to cut the mp3 song short just to use the prime beats then use the audio gain to amplify the tune, then it saves as an aiff file which is non compressed audio file so i import it to itunes and convert to mp3 and its now less then 500k and sounds pretty decent as my ringer, only drawback i think its pretty expensive for its function $29.99. but i'm still searching for other solutions to get this ringer volume better.

Exclamation Rigntone Volume is a problem

Hello all. I am new on the block here. I've been playing round with mp3s for a while. Then I loose interest and ignore it and use the standard ringtones that came with my 600. (My wife has a 650 and it came with other ringtones so we can share, but I still want to make my own. I particularly enjoy one I had my son make. He recorded "Hey Dad, pick up the phone it's me" and That plays when he calls. It always gets a look from people round saying, "where is he"? it makes me smile!

Ok, so now, how do we turn up the volume?
    Cheers,
    Bruce

hi bruce, i just want to know how you customized a ringtone and used that recording. are you using a program? because by default, the 600 isn't able to play mp3 (as ringtones) besides the default tonesunless an application is installed right? im finding ways to optimize my 600. please enlighten me.

    Default I use Ringo

I use Ringo. It has a few extra features, besides helping you manage mp3 ringtones. You can also set per-caller icons and rings.

I used the record feature on my 600. The thing I did not like about it was that the recording is actually only about 5 seconds, but the recording length is longer, so there is no 'loop' of the recording when it rings, just the one time. I tried several ways to edit the resultant file and 'erase' the silence at the end but was not successful. I go in spurts, some times I work on these things for a few hours, and at other times I can't take the time to follow through. I am interested, but I guess I have a short attention span!
    Cheers,
    Bruce
