Only Speaker Phone Works Now
Hello everyone. I've had my Palm treo 600 for about 6 months now. I'ts worked fine until a couple of weeks ago. Now, when I make a call or receive a call, the other party can hear me, but I can't hear them unless I turn on the speaker. I've tried to reset it, but I can't even seem to be able to that. I would really appreciate any help. My battery is fine, everything else seems to be fine except being able to talk/hear unless I turn on the speaker. Thanks....Dee

There is a known problem with the speaker on the Treos. Just curious if you have been using the Speaker jack for a headset or not . . . That seems to accelerate the problem. I don't know if it will help you or not, but I have read that Volume Care has a software workaround for the speaker problem. The only other answer I am aware of is to have the unit repaired . .. As far as reset, there are a couple of different kinds of resets. The most common being hard and soft.
Let us know what the resolution is for you please . . .

It's not the speaker that's the problem. The speaker works fine, in fact that's all I can use to make calls and receive calls. I can't hear if it's NOT on speaker. I've never used a headset/jack etc. I've tried the soft and hard reset. The little tool in my stylus does not seem to fit the hole, so I used a jewlers screw driver and tried to reset. That doesn't work either. I went to the help pages and followed the instructions for reset. It said to hit the up arrow, softly press the reset and I should get the handspring logo. I never got the logo. Matter of fact it didn't do anything. The instructions weren't clear on whether I should have the phone off/onn while doing this. I tried it with it off and on. Didn't work. This is so frustrating. Any other help would be appreciated and I thank you for your response. Dee

I am sorry, because I wasn't very clear in my original post . . .
You have a speaker that you hear from when you hold the Treo to your ear . . . THIS is the speaker I am talking about. I understand that the speaker is working when you engage the speakerphone. The speaker in normal mode is what has failed for many Treo owners who have used the headset jacks with their Treos. When you select speakerphone on the Treo, it sends the voice to the speaker on the back of the Treo which is much louder than the one at the top . . .
But for now lets concentrate on hard resets.
I am not familiar with the 600 stylus, but I know on every other Palm device I have owned, some of them unscrewed to reveal a tool to reset the device. I am not even sure if you reset a 600 the same way you do a 650! But Until you successfully perform a hard reset, you will not know if the failure is OS/software related, or hardware related.
Can a 600 owner talk Dee through a hard reset??
ON the 650, you hold down the phone key while Resetting the device. When the Palm logo appears, you release the phone key and it then asks you if you wish to perform a hard reset. Saying yes, clears the device of everything . . .

Dee,
I am having the same problem as of just a few weeks ago myself. I took it to a cell phone repair shop and he told me it was my internal speaker, so I am trying to order that part now. I saw one for $9.95 on one of the treo parts places. I am hoping this is going to work for me, I will let you know. For the hard reset, you take your stylus as the previous person said and you unscrew one end of it and there is a skinnier piece that you stick into the back of the phone where there is that little hole and if you just stick that in, you are performing a soft reset, but if you stick that in and at the same time turn off your ringer at the top that is a hard reset. You have to clear all of the data you need, as it will lose all of your saved data on a hard reset. It didn't help my problem, but I was told to try it by the Treo technician and Palm people.
Hope this helps.

Do let us know how it turns out. I'm right in the process of ordering a replacement speaker from performancepda.com, so I'll post too once I've tried replacing my speaker. According to a poster at http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/treo-...sible-fix.html , replacing the speaker is the way to go - and relatively cheap!

Okay - I replaced the speaker, and it works fine. I bought a new speaker and a tool for removing the tiny chassis screws at http://performancepda.zoovy.com/product/TREO600SPEAKER - total cost, $22.98. I downloaded out a video that shows how to take the treo apart at http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2...tegory_Code=RD . I also referred to the instructions for taking the treo apart at mytreo.net . I didn't follow ALL of the instructions from either site, as I did NOT need to disconnect the screen or do the buzz-fix in order to replace the speaker. The old speaker just popped right out, and I placed the new speaker into the space, and screwed it all back together. Sounds just as good as it did new - which ain't great, but it's better than having to use the earbud all the time!

i would like to know too

thanks
