Setting up applications to run from SD card?

I've done a bit of searching through the forum here & found little bits of answers, but I'm hoping to get an all-in-one answer.

What is the best way to set up an SD card & run as much as possible from that? (ie necessary file structure or anything)
What's the best program to run apps direct from the card?
& what HAS to be installed in the Treo's memory for it to work?

I've just got hold of a 1Gig card for my Treo 600 & eventually I'll have Docs to Go, music files, bible reader with different modules, games etc etc (I've just ordered a DVD of Treo sharware off ebay, so who knows what goodies I'll find in there )
