Default SIM card not recognized

I just got a new treo 600 and it is not recognizing the SIM card. It asks if it is missing or damaged. I've put it in, taken it out, turned it on and off - your basic stuff and still nothing. Any thoughts before I take it back?

In fact it's a new SIM card and I've tried both the new and the old and neither is being recognized.

So you got a new SIM card for the treo 600 but you already have service with a carrier? Has the SIM card been activated?

I am doing this for my boss and she went to a cingular store and got the treo replaced. I can only assume the card has been activated.

If nothing is broken, it just sounds as if your SIM card wasn't activated.

I guess then the final question is, how do I activate my SIM card?

Call Cingular. They would have to activate the card. If you think it's the card, borrow a SIM card from someone -- and try it in the Treo. If it works, then your SIM card is either not activated or damaged.
