Need Help Sprint Treo 600 drops calls and network connections frequently

My Treo loses its connection to the network all the time.

It doesn't matter if the battery is high or low. It doesn't matter if the network signal bars are high or low. It doesn't matter what time of day it is. It happens all the time, even immediately after hard resetting the device.

My network connection drops while I'm on a call quite frequently. Sometimes I can't place calls because it will have lost the network. Sometimes people try to call and it doesn't ring on my end. Sometimes people call and it does ring, but I can't answer the phone - the display will just hang or it will beep to say it has lost the network connection.

Many times while I'm browsing the web on the device, I have to reconnect and reconnect because it has dropped my connection to the web.

I'm a Sprint customer and have a Treo 600. I've had it since December 2003. The software version on it right now is "Treo600-1.20-SPR". It says the hardware is "C", but I don't know if that is important or even what it means.

I don't have any hacks installed except for KeyCaps600. It still has the problems when that is not installed. The problems have been happening since mid-summer and I installed KeyCaps600 just a month ago. Also, these problems still occur when the device is completely hard reset with no applications or settings made.

I posted this originally as a reply to a thread, but the thread wasn't properly titled and therefore did not believe it would receive sufficient attention. Thanks.

System Tools or Repair

Last night, my Treo was working as usual (dropping calls and such, but still working). This morning, my Treo wouldn't turn on. Apparently the battery had drained completely overnight. I got to the office a bit later and dropped it into the cradle to charge. I've left it in the charger for several hours. Now what happens is this:

When the Treo is in the cradle, I can make calls just fine. No problems, no dropped calls.

When the Treo is NOT in the cradle, it can't even connect to the network. It just locks up or the screen turns a brighter white or dims completely and still locks up.

I've wiped the Treo, a complete hard reset. No luck. Same problems, nothing changed (except that it has no data, programs, or call history on it).

So it seems it is a problem with the battery. Ugh.

I got my battery this morning from LaptopsForLess.com via FedEx.

It was easy to install. If I didn't take the time to take apart and clean all of the parts, it would have only taken about five minutes.

It's charging away right now, so I don't know if that fixed the problem yet.

The new battery isn't bad looking, not that that matters. The old battery looks icky.

I have a good feeling about this.

Rating or Review

I successfully made a phone call with absolutely no disconnection. I also surfed the web for a bit. Bingo!

So my problem was a bum battery after all.
