Can the Treo 600 (with Sprint PCS as the voice and data provider) be connected to a laptop computer and be used as a moder / cell phone to access the internet or provide direct web acess via laptop?
Have used my Treo 600 as a modem for my laptop using PDANet and SprintPCS Vision for about six months. Performance is great, just as advertised by PDANet. Not as fast of broadband, but faster than dial-up, and you can access the internet anywhere you have Sprint cell service. Recommend PDANet as the way to go.
Have been using the Treo 600 with PDANet as a laptop MODEM for several months connecting through SprintPCS with no problems. Speed is about the same as dial-up or maybe a little faster. PDANet is simple to use and does everything it is advertised to do. You might note that the PDANet software is different for the Treo 600 and Treo 650, so make sure you try/purchase the right version. I am very pleased with PDANet's performance.
Reference Hunter's question, "Will I be happy with a Treo 650?"
Don't know. Guess it depends on what you want to do with it and how much the ego needs to be stroked by having the latest and most expensive. You might want to consider a Treo 600...it does just about everything you'll find on the 650 (except WIFI) and costs a lot less. From reading the Snappermail Forum, the 650 guys and really having problems with the unstable memory on the 650 (different from the 600), getting a lot of files dumped, and many soft resets. Have been using a 600 for almost two years and have really never had any problems that I didn't cause4 myself.
I've used PDANet a few times, I can't complain. Connects to my current service provider's internet with speeds faster than 56k. Not bad for a cellphone.
