I spent an hour + on the phone with Sprint Tech support yesterday, and longer trying to coordinate my email settings. Here's what I learned:
- SMS. Sprint doesn't support it yet. Maybe by the end of the year.
In the meantime, they use a web-based messaging tool. If a user sends an SMS/TXT message to your Sprint Treo number, you'll get an Inbox message in the SMS app on your Treo. The message will contain a link to a web page which you can access using the Treo web app. To reply, it must be sent through the web app.
-
xxx@sprintpcs.com email. This is not connected to the SMS/TXT message messaging.
If someone sends an email to your new
xxx@sprintpcs.com address (either from their phone or from their email) this goes to a Sprint web based email tool. If you log in to your account at sprintpcs.com, you can set up alerts. Then, you'll get an Inbox message in the SMS app on your Treo, with a link to a web page which you can access using the Treo web app. The link is a different page/link/interface from the "SMS" messaging referred to above.
- Sprint Business Connect.
It's $15/month for unlimited PCS Vision, Web Access, and Business Connect (personal or enterprise) is included. The Business Connect is kind of funky. There's functionality for Outlook and Notes support, but it only works if you install the software on your PC and if your PC is always connected online! I don't understand the point, or how this is supposed to work.
You can also set up access to a POP3 or IMAP server, separately from the connection above. The only problem that I've seen is that there are no useful Sync options. It's a <--> sync. So, if you delete a message from the Treo, it deletes from the server too.
All in all, the Sprint offerings for email/txt messages are pretty clunky. It's too bad this stuff isn't integrated, and that so much of it relies on the web interface rather than separate apps.
