Default Wireless services for the 650

The 650 will be carried initially by Sprint. I believe Verizon probably has the best overall national coverage. I guess ATT/Cingular will be competitive. My question is how long will it take for the other carriers to offer the 650? Does anyone like Sprint?

If you go to the ATT/Cingular website there is an email alert signup when the 650 becomes available.

I am a Cingular Treo 600 owner and plan on jumping back to Sprint when my contract expires with Cingular. I had Sprint for almost 2 years and loved it. I thought it was better than Cingular...not by much...but better.

    Default treo 650 and cingular

I had dinner with two physicians last night...one has verizon and one sprint. The sprint guy was more high-tech...he said that he thought sprint was always ahead of the informatioin transfer game, which may make it a good fit for the treo 650. Verizon, I believe does have the better coverage, which I suppose is ultimately the most important thing. Now that ATT and Cingular have emerged, it remains to be seen if they will then be equivalent to Verizon. ATT/cingular also have this GSM thing...not sure what that means exactly, except I understad it may make it useful for foreign use...like in europe. Not sure if the other carriers will convert to GSM. I suppose I'll explore Sprint at this point...though they want a one or two year commitment...I may go with the one year...since I imagine that in a year all carriers will service the treo 650.

I visited a Cingular store in Encino, CA on Sunday. The Cingular store in Van Nuys does not carry the Treo. I was troubled by the claim of the sales person that Cingular would not insure the Treo 650, the Motorola Razor, or any other high end phone. I called Cingular directly and was told that the Treo 650 would be available by end of 2004 or early 2005, and, after checking with her supervisor, they would offer insurance on the 650, but not the Motorola. This time frame works with my Verizon contract expiration on February 1.

    Default Cingular Treo 650

I demo'd the 650 at the PalmOne Roadshow in Chicago. While there, I was also able to place an order for a Cingular compatible 650. I received an email this week that verified I would receive it in January. The demo unit I tried out at the show had the Cingular word and logo on the front.

Well, that's the closest I've seen to an actual confirmation of a release date for a Cingular Treo 650. Personally, I don't see why people dislike Sprint so much. I guess they were horrible in the early days of cellular. I have Cingular with my 600 and will probably jump to Sprint when my contract with Cingular expires. I thought Sprint's coverage was solid. Never had any problems. The one thing I do love about Cingular is the rollover minutes. Because of my rollover minutes, I've been able to downgrade my plan.
