650, Cingular, and questions before I buy.
Hi there, I just found this forum and it is just what I need. Hopefully you guys can help me out.
So, I was looking to get a new PDA (Palm TX) with wifi, but soon found the treo 650 at cingular.com. I realized it had all the same features, minus the wifi, but you could get online anywhere through cingular. So I was sold, almost.
I tried it out at the store and found surfing the internet was slow, very slow. But so what, right? Internet anywhere... beggers can't be......
So I ask the guy if he could match the online price of $199 (it was priced at $350 for a 2 year contract in the store) and he says yes. Looks good so far. And then I ask him about unlimited internet plans.... and that's where I stopped.
I read on here that a lot of people are paying $19.99 for unlimited, so that's what I asked about. He said the phone doesn't work with those plans and I must have a PDA plan that starts at $39.99 to get online. Without it, I won't be able to surf the internet. This sounded odd, so I went to another store.... I was told the same thing.
So am I just wrong? Is the cheapest plan for the 650 $40 a month? I'm just looking to check my e-mail and update my website while on a bicycle tour.
Also, how is the service in the Rocky Mountains? Mainly CO and WY? I will be there for a few months.
I was going to ask this in the Cingular forum, but it seems like I would get answers a lot faster in this forum and I leave tomorrow.
Thanks

The reps in the store will tell you that you have to have that plan, but it is not true. Get the Treo, minus the internet service package, and then go to the Cingular website and add the MEdiaNet Unlimited plan, $19.99/mo (or, if they are still running the special, get MEdiaMax - unlimited internet plus 200 SMS/mo for $19.99). A lot of us have it and it works just fine. Do a search on this board or mytreo.net and you'll find all the answers you need.
While I live in Washington, D.C., I just spent a week in Colorado Springs and Denver, and had great service while I was there.
Enjoy your new Treo!

Thanks for the info. One problem, I have a business account and they don't offer online accounts with them. Can I just call up CS and have them do it for me?

Change in plans.... according to this Cingular Map:
http://www.cingular.net/download/CIN...ces_Gen_V9.pdf
The entire state of WY and most of CO do not have access to the Data Network.
Sucks. Oh well, didn't really want to sign another contract anyway......
/kicks and screams like a little kid
//i really wanted it!
