650 on Verizon w/o data package
I need a cell phone with a speakerphone, a good pda with a querty keyboard, text capabilities, but at the moment I do not need data services (web, email, etc.)
The 650 sounds like the perfect unit.
I am many months before my two year current Verizon contract is up.
A friend has a 650 that she used to use on a verizon account and will let me have it for a good price.
Can I substutite that phone on my current verizon account without paying for the additional data package? How do I do it?
Help.. I need to get organized. ;)
Thanks in advance,
Len

I don't see why not. I have done this with sprint on other phones. They don't care what phone you use just that you honor your contract. With sprint as far as rebates it is not how long you have been in a contract it is how long you are using your current phone.
You should be able to have your number moved to the treo and your plan should work. If you do access data services Verizon will probably charge you by the byte. Their rep should be able to give you details on this when they move your number.

I have heard Verizon is more picky on this point
Thanks
I had heard that Verizon is more picky on this point. If anyone has experience or specific info about using the Treo with Verizon without paying for a data package, please respond.
Thanks,
Len
(I wish I could read my own handwriting and just keep a paper organizer)

I understand about the handwriting problem. Whatever information you get here I would still confirm with version before buying the phone.

I just walked over to Verison and they confirmed it is OK but warned me that if I do use data services without getting a package it will cost me an arm an a leg.
I hope to have the phone Sunday.
Thanks to all. I am sure I will be coming back to this list for advice in the coming months,

Should have mentioned this earlier but before you install or get very much on the treo do a hard reset to remove any settings or software from the phone. This may save you headaches later on. Of course if you need or want to use any 3rd party apps you will want to leave them on the treo.

Thanks for the suggestion. My friend told me she'll let me try it for a week or so on her account to see if I like it before I buy it. Only thing I am worried about now is that the speaker is on the back. I was going to velcro it to my steering wheel like my old nokia, so I can see the screen and dial hands free while driving. I wonder if I'll be able to put it into a position where I can hear it and see it at the same time.
