I'm using a unlocked Treo 650 (formally Cingular) with Centennial service in Michigan. Although I usually have a signal, the strength varies, even when the unit is sitting on a table, anywhere from 3 bars to 1 bar, or even just the antenna icon. During a call, the communication is hit and miss on both ends, and once in a while the call drops out completely. The phone appears to be switching from tower to tower okay, and switches to roam when I leave a Centennial area. The problem is mostly at home. I used a Nokia flip phone prior and didn't have these issues. Is there any reason why I should expect the reception to be any different with the Palm? Both Palm and Centennial haven't been much help.

Any ideas? Software and firmware are up to date, and I've tried soft and hard resets. Could a new antenna help?
