Question AC Charger & a few other Newbie ????'s

Hello,

I just registered & am looking for information as I am going to buy an unlocked 650 in the next few days.

Is the ac charger that is supplied with the Treo 650 rated for multi-voltage (110/240V-50/60hz)? I am from Katy, Texas, but I work in Skikda, Algeria and will need to charge it in both places. I do not want to buy the travel kit if I can help it - I only need a European adapter for the plug and not 3 or 4 other types included with the kit.

I have an account with Cingular and a Motorola "international" phone. Will I be able to take my current mobile phone's SIM card out, insert it in the TREO 650 and be good-to-go. Or will I have to go to the Cingular store for activation?

In Algeria I am using a Nokia 2100 mobile phone with a pre-payed SIM card. Could I use that SIM card in the 650 and do away with the 2100?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards,
Mike

mj,
I just purchased a Treo 650 last week, so I am new to everything. What I can tell you is that the sim card in my old LG phone could not be moved to my treo. They tried to convert it in the Cingular store and only a few contacts came over. I was in a hurry so I told them not to worry about it and spent a couple of hours putting in names and numbers. The good thing is, it is much faster to put in names and numbers due to the keypad. Hope this helps. Other than that, I can't put the phone down. I'm going to become one of those guys that someone asks me how I'm doing and I have to check my treo to find out.

Thanks Greg,

I will probably be swapping SIM cards between home and here in Algeria. I can't afford the $3.00 min roaming to use my Cingular phone to call home (free roaming and long distance doesn't apply here).

What is the voltage rating on the ac charger that came with your Treo 650?

I currently have a T3 and its charger is 110/120V. I have to us a transformer to reduce the Algerian 240V current down. 240V will charge it but it will be very fast and then burnt-up.

Mike,
You should have no problem using the AC adapter that comes with the unlocked Treo. You just need to get the wall wort adapter for Algeria. The power adapter is rated @ 100-240V 50/60Hz 0.2A.
You should also have no problems taking your current SIM card out of your phone and placing into the Unlocked 650. It should work just fine.

Default Thanks millerhifi

I guess all thats left is to order the 650 from Palm. I didn't want to purchase the travel kit if I didn't have to. The charger with my T3 is only rated for US voltage. Wonder why they did that???????
I found a place in Houston that sells adapter plugs and electric devices for use outside US. Radio Shack and most other places that sell adapters have a package set to cover several countries, i.e. like Palm's travel kit. I normally go to one place for a couple of years and need several like adapters.

Thanks for your help!

Regards,
