Minitones is one starting place. However, before getting to far in to this area, consider that the 650 has limited memory and too many custom ring tones means no more memory left. A ring-tone management application that is card based offers a better solution.

Hi, you can store the program Minitones on your storage card, along with any .mp3 music files that you plan to make ringers from. Make the ringers using Minitones but when you click ADD it will place the newly made ringer in your sounds folder which is in main memory. I have made 5 ringers myself using minitones and if you keep them to just 30 seconds in length, mine only totaled (all 5) about under 2MB in space.

That is almost correct, but not quite. There is no "folder" in main memory. Using ring-tones in main memory is wasteful. A ring-tone management program that utilizes the card is a better solution.

thanks for that correction Ben, I should not have used the word folder. I do see my individual ringers that I have created in RAM, they start with TON- ; I agree if I wanted to make a bunch of ringers I would definitely use a ring tone manager that stores the ringers on the card, but as it is, my 5 little ringers only take up a bit of space (under 3MB) and what I have also done is move out the few that I am not using onto my card, until I am ready to switch.

No, that number should not be a problem - just remember to keep some memory available (not to go below 10mb for most things) and to keep the db cache at 4mb and above.

I converted a host of ringtones to compressed wav files on my PC and mailed them to my 650 and then merged them to the ringtone database automatically. No additional software needed. They are really small and I compared with less compressed ones and there was really no difference.
Palm OS will detect the format and ask you if you want to use the attachments as ringtones.

But what did that do to your total available memory? When you say they are small, how small and how many?

    Default wav ring tones

Well, the 14 tunes and sounds did take 2,6 MB so it wasn't as small as I remembered. One of them is 512kB and is by far largest, but it's the Itchy and Scratchy song from the Simpsons and I love that tune. (Use it when the kids' calls.)

I really only use 5 or 6 of them.
