| Advetures in travelling with my Treo Hi Gang!
Just as the excitiement starts with the 700w, I still want to see what my Treo 650 can do.
I got my Treo 650 before Christmas. Little did I know, I was in the land of the Blackberry, and the phone carrier was offering the Blackberries for sale. things were incompatible, and they wanted to offer me a GPRS for the phone, but I was told, that i'd have to set it up myself. They were not helpful, and not seem to want to be. I already had the Treo and liked it. I had put all my documents, photos and calendar and tasks to the Treo from my T3. I even used the SD card for music. So far so good. I did not any 3rd party software yet, other than an F1 program from deepweeb and the avantgo programs with their pages. 15 pages so far.
I get to Toronto, Canada and I find that my SIm card for the Pay Go service fits well and works fine! Calls on the phone were clear and even in the car, I used the speakerphone. I may noy have been able to hear the ringing on the speakerphone, but I sure could hear when they answered. It was not a problem to talk and to listen, and I need not worry about talking while driving. One handed operation was easy (even with my fat butcher hand and fingers). I called one person and as they updated their contact info, I went right to contacts and added them with no lose of call or having to put the m on hold.
One evening, while exploring the Treo 650, I decided to hit the web icon, immediately I was told I needed a data service, etc. I clicked the button OK and Bingo! I was checking my yahoo account on my prepaid service. Yes, it was steep, maybe about one dollar and 25 cents per 1-15kb. But, the Treo performed well. Log into yahoo and out without a problem. When I spoke with a CSR about adding a data plan with a monthly service they didn'y know that internet was accessable through preaid. Well, I wasn't gonna tell them, not yet anyway.
That is all for now, I hope to keep you all informed how the Treo holds up in Italy! guess I should post some photos too, eh?

And you can get a good cafe macchiato at any trattoria or bar (away from the main streets) to warm you up. Don't know if you've been to Italy before or not. Just know that everything in Italy moves slow and no one's ever in a hurry....until they get behind the wheel of their car. They use them as weapons...they just point and stomp on the gas.

| [Now that sounds like a city I could live in. Yes, been once before and even drove in the city. That was an adventure. I am looking forward to the pasta, coffee and wine (not in that order)
Gonna put an Italian SIM card in the phone and see if it works. Were you stationed there? It must have been nice.

| Yeah, I was stationed there. Lived in Vicenza, about 6 hrs. north of Roma. Left late in 2002. Gotta love the GSM system, being able to swap out cards. Being a gadget guy, I used to switch phones over there all the time, whenever something cool came out. Ran through all the different providers, too. And I used to have a German card, because I spent alot of time up there too. Have a safe trip and keep us posted on using the Treo in Italia!
