Default and eventually I bought it !!!

Until last saturday, after months of reading forums (Treo ones as welll as HP iPAQ6515 ones...) I was not ready to make up my mind yet.
I wanted to change my TREO180....

Saturday afternoon, passing by a TIM store, i just saw it: a used unbranded TREO650 for 240 €.
Asked for info, it had the original packing and all the accessories, it was charged and I spent an hour or so in the shop trying it out, using the Vodaphone SIM of my Treo180....
And it just worked fine. So I took it home.
I have the whole week to test it and they will take it back if I find problems, else they give me a 6 month warranty...

The 650 has some very little scratches on the case, but all the rest is OK.
I have been playing with it for the week end, yesterday and today....great.
I am very happy so far of my purchase.

I bought the Chapura Pocket Mirror XT 650 upgrade immediately, and it works perfectly with Outlook 2003 on both my office and home PC's.

The first I did was to download the 1.20 firmware and upgrade the machine.
have used the phone, sent SMS, MMS. Taken pictures as well. All working fine so far.
A big improvement from the Treo180.

Until now I have purchased a couple of applications (and a 1Gb SD):
    - VolumeCare as it is strongly recommended in all the Treo forums
    - Astraware Sudoku, just for fun.

Now, it is time to be serious so I would like to ask a few questions fore which I did not find the right or complete answers in the forum:
    - I want a BT earpiece / headset. I have read the forum, and found that the best are the Sony662, The original Palm, the Plantronics640. Does anyone know have any new suggestion ?
    - second battery: is it really needed ? I am not a very heavy telephone user, but with the Treo180 I had problems as it discharged after 5 or 6 calls....If the second battery is a useful purchase, which one ? Does the extended duration one last really longer ?
    - to change the sounds of the treo, is Ringo still the best ? I used it on the 180 and I loved it....

and now a question that to me is very important:
The agenda application on the Treo180 had the WEEK view: it showed the 7 days of the week, exactly at Outlook does on the 7days view of the calendar.
The calendar application that came with the 650 does not have this view.
Can anybody suggest me an application that has it ?

    Thanks !

    Congratulations & welcome!

RE: BT headset - No new suggestions. I posted a mini-review of 2 of the 3 you're considering. I'm still satisfied with the Plantronics Discovery 640.

RE: Second battery - unless you're a power user or away from charging options for a long while, I don't feel there's a need to carry one around. However, Seidio has released a replacement battery that lasts a third longer. I'm thinking about it myself. You can buy it at the ET.com store here.

RE: sounds - many options, many opinions. Ringo, Call Filter, Lightwav, etc. Look around the forums first and see what people like & why. Make sure you know which ones require an external application, like pTunes, to function (and make sure you put the audio files in the correct directory!).

RE: week view - Get WeekView by Pimlico Software, the developers of DateBk. My quibble it that it's B&W, low-res. Pretty weak imo and, if you like conspiracy theories (which I do!), coersion to get us to buy the full version of DateBk.

    Cheers,

    -K

UPDATE: I just found MyWeek, ThisWeek, and WeeklyPlan. They all have an issue or 2, but I'm going to check out WeeklyPlan.

I also use the Plantronics Discovery 640 and am happy with it.

I'm not a heavy phone user. Chattermail is what uses up my battery the most. My battery gets down to about 65% but I put my phone on a charger next to my bed every night and I'm good to go every morning.

I use Ringo and have been satisifed with it.

For a calender I use TMP from lilredspider.com. Check it out to see if it's something you could use.

As far as the battery goes, you shouldn't need a backup unless you plan to be away from a powersource for more than 3 days. I just make sure I have my charger with me when I'm on the road and I'm good to go.

I use the Jabra Freespeak 250. It works really well although there is a bit of static every now and then. Just keep in mind that this is a wireless technology and that being the case you will never find a perfect solution.
