Default Another Treo 650 freezing up

I've had my 650 for 1 week. I've installed no software. I've only added contacts and appointments via palm desktop and performed hotsync operations. EVERY morning, and maybe once a day, my phone locks off and won't turn on unless I reset it. I've done both soft and hard resets several times and the problem doesn't go away. I bought the phone from palm.com with cingular service. Cingular stores say that it's palm's problem and I can't find any customer service phone #'s on the Palm website.

Anyone have advice on theproblem #1. and anyone have a phone # for Palm that I can use?

    Thanks, Mac

    Hi Mac:

That is a shame. Cingular is certainly good at fingerpointing. A couple of questions...Did you upgrade from a previous Palm product or were you possibly using an older Palm Desktop version? Also, I see there is an updater available for the Cingular device, 1.17. What is your firmware version?

I can't give you a phone number for support that I know works, but here is a page from the Palm site that lists the corporate headquarter phones:

Hi Steve: Thanks for responding. It's not an upgrade from a previous palm. No Palm Desktop has ever been installed on my computer except for the one that came with the 650. My Firmware is 1.51 and my software is "treo650-1b.17-CNG" Thanks for whatever help you can give. And thanks for the phone#'s.

if his phone is new then it should already be the 1.17 as that has been out for at least a year i'm pretty sure I know i updated in January of this year after I got my 650

Have you tried a warm reset. Probably wont change anything but you might as well try Sounds like maybe Palm needs to get you a new phone. Maybe Kevin Michaels with palm can be of help he is on this and other treo forums quite a bit.

Kevin can you give Smith mac 99 a shout?

    Mac:

Hmmm...Cingular is a GSM phone using a sim card, correct? I believe they used to have trouble with loose or ill-fitting trays. Take a look at this and see if it helps:

I would hope it was corrected by now, but who knows.

If it is new which I think it would be it should already have the new sim card tray. The sim card might be bad, but I would doubt that. It is an older card that could be the problem. You might try going to a cingular store and get a different sim card and see if it works.

I saw on I think Brighthand that Palm is no longer offering the 650 for sale.

    JFA:

Never assume!!! I would think it should be the new style, but you never know. Since there is a picture of old and new it doesn't hurt to look. If it was me and it looked like I had the new one I would probably still try the piece of a business card just in case.

Kind of like belt and suspenders....

The periodic resetting can be a pain to try and track down, especially because it is only a week old. I would think there is a Palm warranty and I wouldn't let too much time go by before demanding a replacement. You have to try a few things though.

    Hello,

This is Kevin from Palm. Very sorry, but I'm not with Customer or Technical Support and only refer folks to the Palm Knowledge Library to help them resolve issues. The best I can do regarding contact information is to refer you to this Contact page.

The SIM card issue is definitely worth taking a look at.

Not certain it will tell anything for a freeze (as opposed to an automatic reset), but using the on-screen dialpad or the number keys enter #*377 (#*ERR on the dialpad for error) and then choosing Dial can sometimes give clues to the issue: Find out if your Treo 650 or 600 reset itself (and the error code it recorded).

Freezes/resets are usually related to third-party applications: Diagnosing problems caused by third party applications

    Sincerely
    Kevin
