Default Any Generic Wired Phone Headset Work?

    Hi Everyone,

I searched around for this information in other posts, but came up empty handed. I was at several stores yesterday and there seem to be quite a few "generic" wired headsets with microphones (for phone funcionality) which have 2.5mm plugs. Some say works with most phones, except Nokia while some say for Nokia. All have 2.5mm plugs, some have three contacts on the plug, while some have 4.

Does anyone have any experience with using any of these with the Treo 650 rather than the real Palm phone headset? I would like to have an inexpensive spare to carry in the glove box of my car but dont want to do the buy, try and return thing if this ground has been plowed before.

    Any help appreciated.

3 or 4 pins should work. 3 contacts should be a mono headset with mic, and 4 should be a combination headset/headphones.

I bought 2 different Jabra headsets from a local store neither one worked with my 650, I think I am going to buy one from this site or palm . Hopefully I have better luck. This is my first post hope I do it right.

I would take your headset with you and besure the type of end matches yours.

    Ok,
Thanks. All the 2.5mm headsets I looked at were mono with mic. Thats why the 3 vs 4 contacts is confusing me. I guess I will just buy both and see which works and return the other.
    Thanks
