Default Are Cingular and Sprint Treos the same?

I just had a Cingular rep tell me that their Treo 650 is different from Sprint's. He said that theirs was EDGE-capable and had a 20% longer battery life. I thought a Treo was a Treo. Any truth to what he says?

What's up with the small looking card slot below the sd slot?
I don't have one on my sprint.

That's the SIM card slot for GSM models. You insert the SIM card into it. The Sprint CDMA treo's don't use a SIM card to access the wireless network.

Default Which US providers offer GSM?

I'm based in Europe, where everything is GSM, and I love the fact that the 650 is quad-band. I may be moving to the States w/in the next few months, and was curious which US providers offer GSM, and whether that is a reasonable option in the US. What are people's experiences with GSM service in the States? I've usually done pretty well roaming when traveling in the US (major cities in any case), but maybe it's different when it comes to choosing your main provider.

Because there' s NO way I'm giving up my Treo!!

Wow, thanx for the info! That article was very informative! I am going to check into the Cingular coverage in my area because I have determined my current provider Verizon bites

Cigular is on GSM (GPRS), which rocks the world!!
Sprint is on CDMA, works only in USA and may be couple of other countries.

650 base configuration is same other than logos on the phone.

Of course they have some carrier specific features like... GSM will not change your phone time when you go to different time zone but CDMA does!

May B itz worth waiting for 700W which is on G3 technology with verizon.

Cingular and T-Mobile does GSM in USA. And itz this advantage if you have a GSM phone!!

I have been with T-mobile for more than 4 years and I like their service. and they are the only ones who starts with 29.99 / month service plans!

I agree with you 100% on NOT giving up with TREO! it rocks and can't live without it kinda thing!
