AvantGo wireless sync causes 650 restore

Ok, this one is really odd.

I've used AvantGo for years now. But this is the first time I've got it on the Palm.

Each time I wireless sync my AvantGo channels, it works without an issue.... until I hook up my 650 to my MacBook Pro (10.4.6) and do a Hotsync (latest version d'loaded from palm.com). The Hotsync then proceeds to do a full restore, which at the end of the restore, it resets the 650.

Now I've not lost data (that I can tell), but it does tend to swich a few of the apps around in their categories.

I've checked Hotsync right after an AvantGo sync but before a Hotsync and there is nothing that is telling the 650 that it needs to be restored.

Anyone else run into this oddness? The AvantGo software I'm using is the one from avantgo.com and is for the Palm 5 OS.

I did a search on the forums for this, but found nothing specific to this problem.

Have you looked at the hotsync log? Are the conduits setup correctly to sync instead of Desktop overwrites Handheld?

Yep. All are setup for Synchronize (except for backup and install). The Entourage conduit is setup to synchronize it's various parts.

It only happens right after I do an AvantGo sync. Then once it syncs, it goes right back to normal synchronization.

So, if you disable the Avantgo conduit the problem doesn't occur?

alex, I think you may have pointed me to the problem.

At first, when I read your reply, I thought about the conduits on my MacBook Pro, but then I realized that AvantGo on the Palm 5 isn't supported for desktop synching... it's only wireless.

So I looked at the conduit setup on the 650 under HotSync and every single application was checked off. So I unchecked everything and did a wireless AvantGo sync. Then I did a sync to the MacBook Pro. No go. It still reinstalled everything to the 650 and then did a reset when it was done with the HotSync.

I won't be able to test this again until later tonight. But one thing in looking at the process, is that I'll recheck the HotSync conduit settings on the 650 after I do a wireless AvantGo sync but before I do a HotSync to the MacBook Pro (via USB).

I really like AvantGo and would like to still use it, but if it keeps doing this and I can't find a resolve, then I'm going to take it off. It's more pain having to put things back in order on my 650 than it is to read the news and other content offline.

Did some more google searching on this problem and found this link to Mark/Space.

Why after syncing AvantGo are all my handheld files installed on the next sync?

EDIT: the link works, but not in the article. See a post below for the direct link So far, the file they list - avantgofixer.prc - does not have a working link. I have emailed them asking for the file. Hopefully, they will send it since I cannot find the file anywhere else on the net.

Nope, although it appears that Mark/Space (The Missing Sync developers) have created this fix.

I am not currently using The Missing Sync. I am using Palm's HotSync to sync my 650. Although, if this fix works, I may end up upgrading to The Missing Sync.

Last update on this. It now works. Mark/Space support got back to me and attaached the avantgofixer.prc file to their emailed response. They rock!
