I have backup buddy and I should have shelled out a few more dollars for the pro. The basic will restore everything with no options to restore just certain programs. The pro also (I believe) has scheduled backups where the basic you have to remember to do it. Like right now since it has been over a week ago....

On the IIIx I lost count. I used to beta test a lot of software and would end up trashing my IIIx several times a week. With my 650, I think I've only had to restore about a half-dozen times, some from the card, and some from the desktop. I haven't had any issues.

Using BackupBuddy Pro, I did a backup. Then, I did a Hotsync to my laptop. Does the Hotsync take care of putting the backup on my laptop? Or, do I need to copy the backup folder from my SD card to my laptop via card reader? Sorry to have so many questions about this, but I read the entire documentation and it has no mention of this process.

On my 650, I only had to restore from my Card once! I am still not sure what happened, other than the constant loop, and soft RS wasn't cutting it! I was away from my PC and wouldn't see it for about 10 hours! Everything restored properly except Ringo Pro and I think IM+. I didn't catch the IM+ thing until several days later however, because I just don't use it daily. The Ringo thing could have been fixed from the card, but I didn't know at the time what it was looking for. Any other time that I had a Crash/burn I was close to my PC and didn't use the card based back up. That said, I run a back up every morning at 3:00AM. I used to run a back up after each hotsync, but decided that was not needed. But that one time I needed it was worth the price in my book! I went from a total meltdown to almost back to normal in a few minutes . . .

On my 680, I haven't had to restore yet period (I know, knock on wood . .)

You should have seen the desktop BackupBuddy pop up towards the end of your hotsync. What I do with BackupBuddyVFS is I have it set up to do a backup every night at 3:00 am. Then if your Treo should crash, you can restore from whichever was the most recent backup. If you hotsync after a hard reset, BackupBuddy should automagically pop up and restore your data.

I don't have BackupBuddy on my desktop. I downloaded it to my PC, unzipped it and sent it directly to my Treo 650 via the palmOne Quick Install program.

This is getting a little confusing because they have several different BackupBuddy's with similar names. When you say, "the desktop BackupBuddy" I assume you are referring to the BackupBuddy Pro for Windows, which I do not have. To clarify, I have BackupBuddyVFS Professional which is only a prc file and cannot be installed on the PC, unless I am missing something.

Yeah, in that case, you would need to manually copy the backup data to your desktop. I'd suggest going with BackupBuddy Pro for Windows, which includes the BackupBuddyVFS app. Then you have redundant backups.

Yesterday, before your post I paid for the Nomad Security Suite. So, I am no longer in the trial period and I didn't spring for the extra $10 to get the Nomad Security Suite Plus. When I installed the prc files over top of the trial prc files, it didn't seem to work properly. The backups I did were ending in errors. I ended up doing a soft reset, then a system reset and finally a hard reset. I then proceeded to Hotsync to get my contacts back onto the Treo. That worked fine, but it put the Nomad Security Suite back onto the Treo as well. Not only did the Hotsync restore the Nomad Security Suite, but it restored everything. This makes me ask the question, "Why did I pay for Nomad, when Hotsync appears to have taken care of the restoration?"

All of this didn't resolve the errors after the backups, so I did another hard reset. Then, before Hotsyncing again I went into this folder on my PC (C:\Program Files\palmOne\650T\Backup) and deleted almost everything except for a couple things: Saved Preferences, Phone Call Database, and Phone Favorites. So, this is where I am now. Getting ready to reinstall the 3rd party apps I had on there before. LJP, FileZ, TCPMP, MiniTones and Nomad. Hopefully the Nomad installation works properly this time.

Hotsync does not restore everything. Often, you'll end up losing your preferences, for one. Also, BackupBuddy gives you more flexibility in what you want backed up and how often.

You did this the hard way. The usual suggestion is to rename your backup folder. Then you can copy items to your new backup folder one at a time to restore them.

I tend to make a habit of learning things the hard way. :tounge: Thanks for the tip about renaming the backup folder.
