Basics of syncing a Verizon Treo 650 to Outlook
I have a Palm m500, functional but a dinosaur. I bought a Ver. Treo 650 on ebay. No software. I don't think I can run the m500 software on my 650. I only want to work on my desktop and use calendar and contacts. I have the connection cord, but that's all.
What do I have to do to SAFELY sync my 650 to the desktop and get them to talk with each other AND not lose any data on my 650?
Thanks for ANY help you could offer.

You can get the Palm Desktop and Hotsync Manager here. When you run the install, you'll have the option of syncing to either Palm Desktop or Outlook. If you only want to sync calendar and contacts, just go into Hotsync Manager and set the other conduits (Memos, Tasks) to "Do Nothing."

So, Ive always been syncing with palm desktop, but I need to sync with outlook. Is there a way to switch it to sync with outlook or do I need to uninstall/reinstall, etc?
Thanks!

If you have the installation CD, insert into your PC and the opening screen should offer changing from Palm Desktop to Outlook as one of the options....

I'm not sure if this is carrier-specific, but on my Start menu under Palm I have a folder called "PIM conduit sync." There are icons there that link to a program called Outlook Switcher, which lets you switch back and forth.

So, there is no such file in my palm folder (using a 650 on Sprint), and my cd rom drive quit working on me, so I can't insert the installation CD. Is there a file I can download that will allow me to do the same thing?
Thanks!

I think that for the 650 you need the installation disk. You can download a palm desktop from palm.com but I would rename my backup folder and save it somewhere else so you don't lose info.
Also if you are on sprint you will lose your media conduit and maybe your docs to go. (no you should keep your app since it is on your treo all ready. The palm desktop from palm is just the basic one and might not have features from your carrier version disk.
Did not notice that you were on verizon but check out their features

Palm doesn't seem to offer a separate download for OutlookSwitcher, but I was able to find it here. Just run it with the "/Outlook" switch and you should be all set.
