| Batteries suddenly running out quickly Hello,
I have had my Treo 650 for almost a year. Up until last week, I had very good battery life. However, last week I began to notice that my battery is emptying very quickly -- after an 8-hour day (2 of which are spent listening to music, and very little phone conversation), the battery's close to empty. I tried switching batteries, and the problem persists. I also reset the phone. No luck.
As far as I know, nothing has changed. I haven't installed any applications.
Any ideas? I tried searching the forum but couldn't find anything that relates directly.
Thanks! |

Ben | Thanks for the reply Ben. I actually tried switching batteries, so it doesn't appear to be due to battery wear. Also, I'm wondering what "low signal areas" means. Do you mean low reception? I wasn't using the telephone very much; does a low signal drain the battery more?
Thanks again,
Rex |

| A low signal area will kill the battery something fierce - the Treo attempts to contact a cell site and to maintain a good signal, that takes battery power, especially for the Sprint and Verizon series. The stronger the signal, the better the battery life.

| You know, my wife and I have experienced the same thing. All of a sudden, all of our batteries are running out like we owe someone money. I know this sounds really far fetched, but I wonder if ATT is tinkering with their signal in advance of the iPhone release.

| I've notice the same thing and I don't have at&t. Last night when I went to bed I had 89% battery - this morning it was 30% when I left for work. I have a 10-minute drive to work and when I got there it was at 25%...with one short phone call... |

| Have you guys set your treos to access your e-mail on a regular basis?
Do you have a program that is connecting you to the net for updates? (weather, news etc..)
I don't think the treo has a setting for it not to look for roaming or your home signal. IMW my phone will roam or look for a signal for hours before running down. Of course you were down to 30%. Do you charge your treo every night? Or the night you lost so much battery?

| Just want to put in a plug for search. I was having the same problem, but after changing mail preferences and being in a different location, the battery is fine. Thanks. |

| I don't have my treo set to push email. I check it manually, and honestly not very often. The only program that I know connects automatically is 4-cast and that is every morning at 6:00am. It's never been a problem.
I do, however, think that chatter could have been the issue. I've been using the free trial and checked my mail yesterday afternoon when I was away from my desk. It's set to disconnect automatically, but maybe it didn't and that would explain the battery drain. Today it's fine... |

Thanks! | Rex,
I too had the same sudden problem with my battery after two years of great usage. I assumed it was the age of the battery and I ordered a new one. My new one has given me the same poor performance as the old battery I had. I also went in and tried to reset my phone and I checked out everything, but it was to no avail. I have been baffled as to what happened. At least I'm not alone. If anyone has any idea or suggestions please reply.
Thanks,
Margaret |
