battery being weird?

I just recently bought a treo 650 from the internet. It ran great for a couple days then the battery was at 10% so i plugged it in. I had a lot of trouble keeping it charging. I had to jiggle the cord a lot. I wake up today and it's completely dead. So I plug the charger cable into the hotsync cable and plug the hotsync cable in and it charges.

It charged for a while and then it said it was full so I unplugged it and it was only at 61%. I plugged it back in and I had to wiggle the cords around to get the red light to come on. I get the red light to stay on, but the battery symbol doesn't show that it is charging. Right now, it's still sitting at 61% charged and it won't charge anymore!

What's wrong? Why is it so difficult for me to get my cables to charge it? Could both my hotsync and wall plugs be bad? Why did it stop at 61%? Is my battery bad? I tried a soft reset, no luck. please help!!

Sometimes the red light and the little lightning bolt will be there but if i touch the battery symbol it won't say "XX% (charging)"... it'll just say "XX%"

I lean toward the battery; they do go bad sometimes with no advance medical warning.
