Best Provider
I am looking at buying a Treo 650 within the next few weeks and I am wondering should I stay with sprint or jump to another provider like at&t.

Well, there is no more AT&T. Your choices for a Treo 650 will be either Sprint or Cingular. I personally prefer Sprint (and I'm with Cingular now). I think you'll also save a few bucks with Sprint as opposed to Cingular. One of the advantages of Cingular are the rollover minutes. I have been able to downgrade my plan twice due to all the extra minutes I've accumulated. With Cingular & AT&T joining networks, they are going to have very good coverage.

Help find a fair service plan!!
after years as an AT&T wireless customer, Cingular tells me that I must migrate to GSM...get 110 less minutes (for the same price I'm now paying)
...& be forced to pay between $12.99 to $49.99 additional for a required data service. The explanation between the two plans can only be vaguely described in available kilobytes (whatever that means).
I really want this Treo 650. But must I pay an additional $600 or $700 dollars a year just because I want to combine my PDA & phone???

Rick-
I pay $19.99 for Unlimited Data using Media Works. It is possible that you'll get less minutes. The one thing about Cingular that's great are their rollover minutes. I've reduced my plan twice due to excess rollover minutes. My history with service providers tells me that sometimes it's best to jump to another in order to get the best plan. I jumped from T-Mobile (Treo 180) to Sprint (Treo 300) to Cingular (Treo 600). In a few months, I'll jump again to however has the best deal.
Good luck with your decision.

Media Works???
Hey Chris,
Thanks for the prompt response. I don't see anything on my net search for 'Media Works'. Can you use an outside data provider with a cingular GSM plan??

Rick-
Here's a link to Cingular's Media Works.
I ended up signing up for my Treo and then adding Media Works. So, find your best deal on a Treo/Plan and then add the Media Works.
We should be offering a good deal on the Treo 650 soon with our online partner Inphonic. Right now, you can find the Treo 600 for only $219.99.

I think it depends on where you live. I have an Ohio phone number living in Georgia. I had just bought the 650 tonight to try it out from Sprint (Been a Sprint customer for 6 years) and then realized that they have literally NO coverage in most of Kentucky. I just cannot go without a phone during my drive to and from Ohio/Georgia. I came home and checked out the Cingular site and was amazed at the coverage! My friend has Cingular (former AT&T) and has had no problems with service. And, the Cingular phone plan was a bit cheaper, but the web package, 5$ more, than SPrint. Since this phone has no analog, I promptly took the Sprint back. Now just waiting for the monies to post back to my account so I can hook up with Cingular. Thank goodness I can keep my number and I am out of contract!

It's great to be out of contract. With the number portability, consumers have so many more options. When my Treo 300 contract ran out with Sprint, I continued for a few months before I decided to upgrade. I contacted Sprint and let them know of a Cingular offer. I explained that I was happy with Sprint and would like to stay, but Cingular is offering x,y and z. The Sprint offer was worse than if someone of the street signed up with them. So, I took my number to Cingular with my Treo 600.:D No longer can the wireless companies hold you hostage because of your number which is a great thing.

Be Advised: DONT buy from Wirefly
I placed an order at Wirefly on the 2nd and got a credit approved email that said phone would ship in 24-48 hours. Have not had an update since. I have tried to contact them and they don't respond. This WIREFLY is a really bad site to use. BUYER BEWARE...
Hey Chris- maybe you could offer some advice as to how to make this better... How do you get in touch with them when they dont answer email from the site? Did you get ignored for 5 days (and counting) after credit approval? What do you do in this case? I would order direct from Palmone or Cingular, if I hadn't ordered yet. I wonder if this Wirefly even has the phone they sold me. People need to know about this - and pay attention- people like you, when you advise people, need to consider how many people get ignored like I am. Sounds like you got them on a good day.
