Default Bike Riding w/ Treo 650

I recently purchased a Treo 650 and am currently preparing for a 100 mile bike ride (a "century"). Now that I essentially have my office in a portable format, I want to take the Treo on my bike rides. Does anyone know of a way to secure the 650 to the handlebars of a bike? Thanks. PFW

Default I'm looking for one as well

Last summer a guy on a nice road bike passed me like I was tied to a post. I did have time to notice that he had a nice handle bar mounted clip for his candy bar style cell phone.

I've been looking for something like this without much luck. I haven't gone to the forum that Bicycling magazine operates, but I'm guessing you'll have better luck on that forum, or at Velo News, than here.

Even though I bought a hard case for mine, it's too bulky to put in the middle zip pocket of my bicycle jersey -- you know the type with the three pockets in the lower back. So, I just wrap it in a zip lock bag and zip it in the back pocket.

If you're only worried about receiving calls on your training ride, that should be a good solution with a bluetooth earpiece that lets you answer the call by touching it.

I am doing a century this Staurday myself. My Treo will be with me as well.
You may want to check out this handle bar bag. i have seen them up close and they look pretty good.

Just remember...that riding with any type of ear piece picks up the wind of the ride.

good luck!

Informative

Cool
I followed their link to REI.com and the basic one is only $12.00
Seems like a much better idea than my plastic baggie in the pocket idea.
I'm going to swing by an REI store this week and see if they have one in stock

Well, since we are on the topic..well sort of.. (and being the Admin here, I can bend the rules a bit)... I'm in the market for new bicycles for my wife and I. I used to own Giant mountain bike that I'd take on the local trails and absolutely loved it. I left it at a friends house and it's now a pile of rust. So, I figured with the nice weather, it might be a good idea to get a little exercise --- and step away from the computer. Not too much, because I'll have my Treo. Anyway, I'm in the market for a Specialized, Giant or Trek. Any suggestions?

It's good to be the boss and make your own rules, isn't it Chris? :D :D

Okay, road, mountain or hybrid?
How much?
If you're going to go with a road bike, you want to add Lemond and Schwinn (sp?) to your list.

Looking at mountain -- $400 to $500 max. Needs to be a good
ride on pavement also.

Hmm, then I don't think you want a mountain bike. You should look at a hybrid -- the frame geometry is designed for touring type riding on pavement but the tires are wide enough and treaded enough that you can take the bike off road.

Do you have an REI co-op near you? Their "house" bike (can't remember the name) is supposed to be a very good buy in your price range and for where you're saying you want to take it.

Chris,
I agree with hunter. The price range that you are looking at will get you into a nice entry level hybrid. What is nice about the hybrids are that you get the thinner tires that make spinning easier than pushing nobbies on a MNt. bike. If you can find a local bike shop try working with them. Most will give you a great maitenance package when you buy the bike. Some will even aree to a lifetime tune-up on the purcahse. I am a strong supporter of the local bike shop...they have built both of my racing bikes.

Treo news...I have just downloaded Snappermail and like it alot! Great program.

p.s. always wear a helment!

Chris....and just to add a couple of cents:
the past few bikes we bought for the family we went to a bike shop that also rents bikes. We were able to buy a higher quality used bike (kept in great condition) that was just a few months old that if bought new, woulda been outta our price range. Good luck.
