    Default Bluetooth Audio

Sorry if this is a repost. Does anyone know of a way to make audio play through a bluetooth headset? I have a 650 and a Nokia bluetooth. I love the headset but hate having to switch to a wired one to listen to music.

Not possible with the Treo 650. Wireless audio via Bluetooth requires the A2DP profile, a Bluetooth 2.1 implementation not included in the Treo 650's Bluetooth 1.1 API.
    Here's a reference from Palm's knowledge base.
Sorry. I share your irritation at Palm's BT execution (literally!) in the Treo 650.

HandyAndy wanted to know if audio can be played via Bluetooth. It still can't, even using Freedom. Freedom plays with audio to the Treo's speakers or to a wired headset. The function-liniting step is in the Treo itself.

It says 'Supports all Treo(R) compatible headsets' so I'm guessing that includes wireless?
I don't see where it ways wired only.

I've never tried that app, though.

If I get time I'll try it out this weekend and see if it works.

Is the Bluetooth 2.1 what's going to give us a 300 ft range? I LOVE my treo adn I love bluetooth but the range really sucks. I am using a Nokia HDW-3 right now and so far it has performed the best. I have a Plantronics Discovery 640 on its way and am going to test it out. Really the issue with audio over wireless is the only one I have.

Unfortunately, Bluetooth 2.0 (there is no 2.1 yet) upgrades the data transfer rate, not range, and increases the available supported profiles. The range of usable signal is a function of the amount of power running through the BT antenna, which is device-specific.

Wikipedia has a fine article on Bluetooth and its specifics.

And I agree with you on the Treo's BT implementation. Just like the conspicuous absence of WiFi support and lack of voice functions (memos, dialing, etc.) in a voice-driven device, imho it's called "planned obsolescence," a corporate strategy to ensure we all buy the Treo 700p!

P.S. One other thing: theer is a headphone that looks like it can do BT audio as well as calls, but it requires you plug in its BT transmitter into the stereo jack of the Treo. And since the Treo has a 2.5mm jack, you'll first need an adapter as well, creating a sizable (and breakable) extension off your Treo. The headphone are over-the-head type. I have no idea if they work with a Treo 650, but they seem to cooperate with incoming telephone calls.

I ~SO~ agree, and I hate corporate america for it.
Why can't they just make a product that lasts long instead of designing it to become obsolete?

    Ok, /rant off
