Default Bluetooth on Treo 650?

Hi! I thought I'd joined a treo forum before, but apparently not! So - I'm new here.

Anyway - I'm going to jump right in.... I have a problem with my 650 jack, and I've already had the jack repaired once.... only to have it break again.... so I'm really not feeling like fixing the jack is ever going to be a permanent solution. Problem is - I really need to be able to use a headset to talk on the phone.... the feel of a clunky square against my face simpy sucks. (In this, I really miss my flip-phone!)

So - I'm now wondering about bluetooth technology. If I get a bluetooth headset, do I need to bother about the jack? Has anyone used some of those dual headsets (stereo/mono switching headsets for mp3 and phone use)? Any recommendations?

Also - my Bluetooth application says it is Bluetooth manager #1.0. I've heard that that version is outdated. Is there a way to upgrade to the latest version?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to ET forums Queentiye.

Wow . . Bluetooth on a Treo . . Do a search here and you will find lots of BT limitations. What works for me, might be a nightmare for you. The treo doesn't support voice dial. there is a software update to use Stereo headsets. The name of the software has left me at the moment, but I am sure that someone here will help me remember. The one thing for sure, is that if you find a BT HS that you are happy with, you won't have to fool with the jack! I am currently using a Moto HS 850. Terrible ratings from most, but it works great for me . I have heard good things about some Sony Head Sets as well as several Jabra.

Hope this helps . . .

Thank you. I noticed after I posted here that there's a bluetooth section! I'll go browse a bit.

I hope someone chimes in with software information you mention.

Hi QueenTiye:

Welcome to the ET Forums and good luck with your new toy!!!

The headset jack is a very weak part of this mostly fine device. I do know there is a connecter made that fits over the docking connector, bypassing the headphone jack entirely. It is Seidio's Audio Out Adapter and here is a link in the ET store:
http://store.everythingtreo.com/cont...73-75--634.htm

I can't help you with a Bluetooth software update, but I can tell you I have been using a Plantronics Discovery 640 headset and I have been extremely pleased, but I don't think you can listen to music on it. I haven't even tried. Prior to getting this, I was using the standard wired earpiece and that was enough to ruin the jack. When that Treo was replaced due to the broken jack, I didn't want to kill another Treo so I decided to try Bluetooth. I really only use it in the car and I am not walking around a room or house so I haven't experienced any distance problems, but I know others are not pleased with Palm's impementation of Bluetooth. Luckily I never used it before so I have nothing to compare it to.

Aaaah, if ignorance is bliss, I must be ecstatic!!!

I hope this is of some help,
SteveTaz

OK - I will officially kiss your feet! That little bugger is brilliant! Thank you for that. I will certainly get that while I'm still researching the bluetooth issues!

Hi Stillrockin! Thank you for the link. Is this for software? I couldn't tell from the description (technology challenged in some respects! *blushes*) If so... were you clamoring for foot kissing too? ;) LOL!

Feet kissing is not required. However, if you wish to send cash....Kidding!!!

I just hope that you are able to enjoy this marvelous toy. It sure has it's quirks and weak points, but so far the good far outweighs the bad. At least for me.

Enjoy,
SteveTaz

Has anyone actually used that Seidio Audio adapter with a combo phone mic and headset setup? If so, what are your thoughts/opinions? I am also having issues with my headset jack, and think this may be the answer. I'd like to hear what others who've used it for its dual purpose have to say. TIA.
