Bluetooth problem treo 650
I just purchased a treo 650 for cingular. All in all, great phone with pretty good service. But with that said, I have a problem:
My bluetooth headset (Motorolah H500) doesn't work very well with the phone. It appears to be all synced up. I can hear the phone call, but if the phone is more than 2 feet away from the headset, it gets scratchy. If the phone is 5 feet away, you can barely hear anything. Considering the bluetooth headset works fine with my old phone, is the problem in my treo?
With that said, if I return my phone tomorrow and get a new one at the Cingular store. How do I save all my programs and settings? Is that done through sync?

Treos seem to be funny with bluetooth. Success with headsets varies from user to user. There have been many threads here about this very issue. Unfortunately, for the most part, trial and error seems to be the way most people find success. I'm on my 2nd headset myself. It's the Sony Ericsson HBH-662 and I have to say I'm very happy with it. I've heard good things about some others, as well. Check out the bluetooth section of the forum and you can see what people think about many different ones and probably find some posts by Cingular users which may be helpful.

Yes, doing a sync will backup everything to the Palm folder on your desktop/laptop. Do you use an SD card, by any chance? If so, consider looking into a backup app like BackupMan or BackupBuddy. They're worth their weight in gold.

BT seems to be hit and miss on the Treo. One person will have great results with a particular headset, and another will get nothing but static and poor sound. Having said that, I have read a lot of bad reviews about that particular headset with the Treo.

Is a new headset an option? If so, you may want to check out a few others. If you're a Motorola fan, you might want to check out the 700. Sony's HBH600 and 660 generally get good reviews, as does the Cardo Scala 500. You can always sell the old headset.

Bluetooth Treo 650 - Still Problems
Long Story, try to make short.
1st Treo 650, ~March 15, 2006, purchased Plantronics Voyager 510 BT headset, worked fantastic! Crystal clear, great volume, $60, a little heavy on the ear, but OK. 1 week later, the Shift key on my treo stuck and Cingular replaced the phone with a "loaner" 650 while my new one was ordered. The "loaner" worked great with the headset. Received the new phone, was EXTREMELY full of static with the headset. Replaced the headset with identical Plantronics, still MUCH static. Cingular replaced phone. New phone received. Lots of static with Plantronics 510. Went out on a limb and purchased a Jabra JX10 (which I love by the way). LOTS OF STATIC. As long as I keep the phone next to my headset, it works great. Move it away from the headset and the static "poppy" appears, not white noise. I've tried in my office, in my home, in the middle of my 13 acres (bet there's no wifi there) and all the same! Phone Info...
Firmware 01.51
Software Treo 650-1.17 CNG
Hardware B
Downloaded the most recent software. Same problems. Took phone back to Cingular store. NO headset in their office will work with my phone. My headsets (Plantronics 510, Motorola HS820, & Jabra JX10) work with the agents' phones. So, the agent got a new phone from stock....No headsets work with it, not even any of the ones they sell! Uggh!!!! They're killing me! Any ideas....

It sounds like a faulty Treo. The headsets worked with your original Treo and work with the agents Treo, but not with your new Treo or the one he had in stock. Were the replacements "new" Treos or refurbed? If the later, then perhaps it's a string of bad Treos causing these issues. You've got two headsets - different brands and they work properly on the agents Treo. This tells me it could a firmware issue (and really this shouldn't be the issue) or a faulty Treo. I'd try a hard reset on the new Treo and go throught the pairing process again.
It's not uncommon to go through a few refurbs to get a good Treo. I have heard of folks going through multiple refurbs trying to get a properly functioning unit. If the agent cannot resolve the issue, then I'd ask for a replacement.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out. I realize this must be frustrating, but you'll be happy once you get a good unit.

Bluetooth Problems Solved
OK, all is well finally! BT problems have been solved. TREO 650
Phone 1, March 2006 - Fantastic, BT worked great, but the shift key stuck. Cingular replaced with a new phone.
Phone 2, March 2006 - Loaner from Cingular, worked great until my new phone arrived.
Phone 3, April 2006 - Replacement (warranty) phone. BTW, none of these are refurbs. New phone will not work with any BT headset. Tons of static unless your phone is right by the headset.
Phone 4, April 2006 - Replacement (warranty) phone. Will not work with any BT headset without tons of static.
Phone 5, May 3, 2006 - Replacement (warranty) phone. Works fantastic. I'm using it with a Plantronics Voyager and I'm now using it with a Jabra JX10 and I love it.
I'm just reminded of one of Churchill's famsous speeches...Never give up! Never, never, never give up!

So it was a line of bad refurbs causing the problems?
Glad to hear you are back in action!
