    Default Bluetooth woes.

Hello all new treo 650 owner and forum member here. I am having a spot of trouble with my treo 650. I am using sprint as my carrier and have done the 1.12 update. My problem is I cant get DUN to work. I am trying to use it with a Dell Inspiron 9300..(great laptop by the way!) What happens is I keep getting a connection failed message. Now what I have found is my Treo is a lot like my 9 year old son. I have to ask it to do something many time before it actually does them. Versa mail for instance. If I just keep asking it will eventually get and send my email...but I have to ask many times.

Ok I digress...but I thought maybe that is the problem with DUN So I tried for several hours last night...I actually got it to connect then I got a error 633....got past that somehow and then got an error 692 saying the modem was not working.

Hmm seems I have asked several questions here....the big one is has anyone got DUN working with a treo 650 from sprint...and if so how did you do it?

    Thanks all!

Thanks I have looked at that stuff and while I certainly dont rule any of it out...it seems more for an internal hardware modem. My understanding is that using the treo 650 as a modem is not the same. I will be using the treo over a bluetooth connection. It is a problem with either a handshake or some silly setting I imagine.....but then what the hell do I know!

If the Treo and your PC are paired correctly then I would expect that the links I provided could be useful. If you believe there is a problem with the pairing, you should probably start from scratch. Something else people have reported to cause issues is when hotsync is configured for Bluetooth hotsync.

I wonder should the modem show up as a bluetooth modem in windows xp? I see only a standard 36k modem. Here is what happens..I have the devices paired I click on the dial up networking icon My treo lights up and I get the connection sound and a message on the treo that a connection is in progress. Then a dialoge box on the laptop pos up saying ...opening port...then dialing #777....then after a bit I get the error 692 message.

Not sure if this is related but #777 is the number to dial right? Cause if I dial that number from the dial pad on the treo I get a message saying the number or code I dialed is incorrect.

The following is a PDF document with instructions, but I believe it was created back when a hack was needed to enable DUN. So, I'm not sure if all of it is applicapable.

Most of the infor for error 692 deal with the modem being not coneccted right ....or having a hardware error. Since the treo is the modem does that mean that it is defective? I am on my third treo 650...first one died second boothtooth was inop.....so I hate to think that is the case. Also if the modem...wich is just the phone...is not working then I should not be able to use it as a phone.

I have to belive it is some software setting on the Laptop...or treo.

You can try PdaNet to see if that is able to connect properly instead of the built-in Windows DUN.

Well I downloaded PDAnet...and it still has problems with bluetooth.....but works like a charm thru the usb cable....so as far as I am concerned that is good enough! I plan on buying pdanet and sticking with it.

Glad you found a solution, even though it's not free. From what I've read, using a USB connection is faster than using Bluetooth.
