    Default Boot Error

I'm looking to buy a used phone right now. I found one for really cheap but the owner says that there is a boot error. Whenever he tries to restart it, it gets to a boot screen and just freezes up. To me, it sounds like a software/firmware problem. For the price, I willing to take a chance as long as there is a possibility of getting it to work. I asked the owner for some more info. I will post it as soon as I get it.

Thanks a lot for helpin a noob.

I thought I saw this someplace...anyway, the present owner has probably all ready done the hard reset, the ROM upgrade, et cetera. I frankly woulod not be willing to try - money out the door.

Unless there is a hardware problem, the ROM update (if there is one) will probably work - maybe the effort was not made. You do not mention the species of the device. Ben

Here is the description from the auction. I have sent him more questions but he hasn't replied yet and the auction is ending in an hour so this is all I'm working off of. It sounds like he hasn't tried anything. Anyways....here it is:

I am selling this phone because i bought it about 2 weeks ago and then one day it just showed a bootload screen and won't go to anything else. I am sure that reloading the software or flashing the phone would fix this but i don't have time to mess with it and i have already bought another treo. It may be able to be turned in under warranty, who knows. It has never been dropped or had water anywhere near it. I think i probably got a bad ringtone bluetoothed to me and it had a virus or something. This phone looks brand new. Anyways this phone has tons of features and would be more useful to someone who needs and MP3 player, nice camera, bluetooth, full keyboard, etc.

There is a ROM update - so try it - make sure you get the full update, not the little one just released. If you can get the full ROM update, then it might be worth a try. As for a virus - no. Ben

Thanks for the replies. When I was looking at it, it was going for less than $60. Then, when about 2 minutes hit, the thing skyrocketed to $105.
Guess I'll be waiting for the next one to pop up.

I heard on another forum, people were getting the new Samsung Blackjack for $150 with no new contract. I might have to look into that.
