Call for Help
I aquired a Treo 650 from my friend about a month ago and it worked fine aside from some cosmetic dings. Then two weeks after I had received it the phone was sitting on the table and made the noise as if I had plugged the charger in. When I looked at the phone the lightening bolt was across the battery symbol and the charge light was red. I plugged the phone into the charger hoping that it was just a fluke thing but plugging and unplugging the charger did nothing to fix the problem. After this the phone became unusable because the battery life became 2-3 hours and it was almost impossible to charge because the phone would slip in and out of charge mode when plugged in. I've tried the soft reset, hard reset and attempted to use a different battery but the problem persisted. I was wondering if anyone had any insight into what happened and how it can be fixed, in the time being I had to resort to my old phone because I refuse to pay Palm $200 just to look at it. Thank you for any help

You might check with your carrier to see what they would charge to fix it.

Do you know why your friend gave up the Treo? Was there a problem with it?

my carrier verizon doesn't want anything to do with it and the guy I got it from bought a pocket pc.

Do you have access to a cradle? If so, perhaps that connection may be a better one and may charge the Treo. However, it sound like you may have a short of some type if the Treo "thinks" the charger is plugged in when it isn't.
Is it possible your friend upgraded to the new model because this one was acting up?
There is a guy who has an ebay site named Chris Short. He does repairs on Treos and from what I have seen he has a great reputation. You should search these boards and others and you will find some real positive reviews. I have never personally used him.

Take a look and see if you are interested. You can probably drop him a note to inquire about his thoughts on doing a repair and maybe he can give you a ballpark estimate.
I hope this helps,

ok thanks a lot I will check him out. And I dont believe he upgraded because it was acting up because the phone worked fine for me for 2 weeks before it started being confused about the charger.
