Can I keep treo always connected to the internet?

Just an update too, if it helps. When I go to Preferences even right now at work (Just checked mail 2 hours ago) and go to network it says: Service: Internet. Then says Locked. Then has the button to connect. If I click modify, it says "This network service has been pre-installed by your mobile service provider, and cannot be edited."

The other thing is under services, it says Internet, then also has "Rogers Media." Internet says nothing, but Rogers Media shows type: GPRS, username, password, all filled in but locked. It shows connected. When I hit disconnect on that and then ran VersaMail, I noticed this time it said "Connecting to Rogers Media" then wouldn't download mail. I had to go into preferences, and hit connect on Internet then go back and it worked. Can I have multiple services under network, or am I basically choosing one there? Maybe it's because I have Rogers Media always connected, then I have Internet selected for service, so that's why it keeps connecting, since more than 1 can't be at the same time? Not sure if that matters?

edokid, without knowing more, I would venture to say your net and Rogers media are two separate things. Maybe Rogers media is WAP? It seems you can't connect to both, but must choose. And your description of being unable to modify the prefs of your internet connection really makes me think it's something Rogers has done given the cost of data up there.

Have you tried Cust Svc from Rogers?

Thanks for the help guys, it's definitely not roaming, as I'm in Canada and there's only Rogers here for GSM. When I notice it is with VersaMail. I'll have my phone sitting awhile, I click VersaMail and then I click Get Mail. It then pops up the Mac Os 8 looking icon where it says "Connecting." "Establishing" and so on. THEN it does the connecting to IMAP and what not. Under Network preferences, it will then show "Internet - Connected." If an hour later I go back into VersaMail it's fine. But after a few hours, I go into VersaMail, click Get mail, and same thing, does the Connecting... Established and so on...

I notice the same thing. As Benje said though, it seems to depend on signal & Battery strength. It does re-connect rather frequently however when I try to Wireless Sync for email with Verizon.

I think I may have it figured out. I notice when I created a new connection, it gives the option under advanced settings for timeout. You can set never disconnect, or pick a time. With my Rogers internet settings they are locked. If I click modify, it says the carier has locked these settings and you cannot modify them. So they may have it set to autodisconnect. The thing is, I bought my phone unlocked, so how is it that Rogers has set up their internet settings on my phone and locked them? Should I not be able to change them or do them manually?
