Yes, with the introduction of "number portability", you can now switch from wireless provider to wireless provider without fear of losing your phone number. I switched from Sprint to Cingular and kept my number.:D

Here's the link to the government's page on wireless portability.

    That's correct. Misunderstood the question.

This brings up a good point. I thought that with the introduction of number portability that wireless providers would bend over backwards to keep you. They used to be able to hold your phone # over your head, but you figure they would use new hardware to entice you. Doesn't it make sense not to keep a customer who has spent 1 or 2 years with you. I'm surprised they don't take a page from Directv. I've browsed countless threads over at AVSForum discussing how folks have received upgraded equipment from Directv to stay with them. I'm currently out of contract, but plan on making the call once Directv brings their version of the HD-TIVO to market. (not the super expensive $1k HD-Tivo). I have no problem asking them to offer me a deal on a box considering my monthly bill averages $130.

My Cingular bill is $120 a month. I'm sure they won't be looking to cut me a deal on new hardware when my contract expires.

Sorry to get off track, but I thought this was an interesting parallel.

I'm guessing given my past experience with Sprint. I will certainly give it a shot. I spoke with mulitple reps at Sprint before jumping to Cingular. They couldn't do anything for me. I was surprised. I was very happy with Sprint and wanted to stay. We'll see what happens with Cingular - different company - perhaps they will be more willing to offer me a break.
