Can you save preferences on treo 650?

Hey...I have the VZW Treo 650 and run into a small annoying problem from time to time. If I install a new app and sync the Treo 650 resets - which is normal I take it. However, what isn't normal is that I loose all my preferences - color theme, the way it syncs with my pc, and small preference type details within key apps. What's even stranger is that it reverts to a set of preferences that were right around the time I bought the unit. So it doesn't revert back to factory preferences, but to what I think is the first set of preferences.

Is there a way for me to save my preferences as I like them and not have to fool around with them each time the unit resets?? Please help because it's very fustrating. Thanks!
