Default cannot send but can recieve emails

I cannot get my email to send emails. I can receive emails and all my settings are right but there seems to be a relay problem between cingular and roadrunner. Would not allow "relaying locked...ip address may be forged" is the message i received when trying to send. But i was able to receive and read messages sent to me.

Is this a problem anyone is having? How do I correct this?

    More info will help.

    1. Your data service provider?

    2. Your inbound and outbound email pop/imap/smtp server settings?

    3. Which mail application you are using on your Treo 650?

    4. What type of mail server -- Exchange, etc?

Typically, when you get "relay"-type errors, it means.. your mail client
does not have access privileges for the SMPT server ...possibly because the SMPT server
would not allow you to use different or "mix and match" inbound/outbound mail servers. Many ISPs use this blocking scheme to control spamming.

    Tammy hi...

According to palmone.com..on the subject of

Outgoing mail server issues for VersaMail:

With the exception of Cingular Wireless, all mobile service providers offer an SMTP server to get around problems with sending email.

Does your Internet service provider (ISP) prevent you from sending emails because they do not recognize your Internet location (via your smartphone)?
Your smartphone may be connected to an IP address that your ISP's email server does not recognize. The server may refuse to send your emails unless you authenticate yourself; it thinks you may be a SPAMmer.

Simple solution: use another SMTP server furnished by your mobile service provider expressly for this purpose. With the exception of Cingular Wireless, all mobile service providers offer an SMTP server to get around problems with sending email. Plug in the new SMTP server name, a username and password and off you go.

Contact your mobile service provider, and find out if you can use their SMTP server to send SMTP emails

    -------------------------------------------------

But try this for the SMTP Server Settings.

For Cingular Wireless, you do not need to enter a user name or password, but you do need to enter the SMTP server info.
    Outgoing (SMTP) Server: cwmx.com
    User name: (none)
    Password: (none)

    ----------------

    and/or:

Does your mail server require SMTP authentication?
Your email service provider may require a username and password to be entered when you send email. This helps ensure security and reduce spam.

Here's how to add your outgoing username and password:

    In VersaMail, open the Menus.
From the Accounts menu, select Account Setup.
Highlight the email account you want to check, then select Edit.
Depending on your version of VersaMail, you may have to select the Next button several times to get to the Advanced settings.
When you see an option for ESMTP (may appear as "Use authentication (ESMTP)" or "My server requires authentication (ESMTP)"), check the box next to this option.
Enter the outgoing username and password for ESMTP.

I have other suggestions if this fails...one at a time..don't want to overload you with work-arounds ;-)

    Default da bomb

have been having the same problem AND have followed those instructions but STILL can't send.

i'm in the uk and using Orange.

the Outgoing mail server is set as
    smtp.orange.net (service provider)

    advanced (outgoing)
    port 25
ESMTP selected, username and password as appropriate.

once connected to the server to send it reads "time out" within 5 secs, then proceeds to get messages but does not send.

in the general preferences the connections tab is set timeout 100seconds

    further ideas??

    thanks.
