    Default Can't hotsync my 650 w/ laptop

    Hello intelligent ones.
I am having trouble syncing my 650 to my laptop. I couldn't find my cd last night but i downloaded from palm's sight. It synced the 1st couple of times but no information carried over from my phone to the laptop. Now, the phone doesn't even make the sync noise. (I hotsynced w/ my old laptop numerous times.)

    Here are the conditions:
Hotsync is turned on for the laptop.
phone does not make a the sync noise.

I just got a 750 and I wanted to transfer my contacts, and calender to my 750

Any ideers would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeremy

    Hi:

Even though your message is addressed to the intelligent ones I will take a stab anyway.

    1) I assume you are using a USB cable. How many USB ports do you have available on the laptop and are they "powered"? You aren't trying to use a hub, are you?

    2) Is the proper user name selected, upper right of the desktop?

    3) Try blowing some compressed air over the cable connectors and the 650 connector. As my 650 was getting older and older, the connection got shakier and shakier. Usually the cable connectors are at fault as they do wear. You can also try a little rubbing alcohol on a QTip to clean the connectors, but make sure THEY DRY BEFORE reconnecting.

    4) Are you getting any warning message on the handheld or the laptop?

    5) Vista or XP and was the old laptop the same OS? If now Vista I believe there is a Vista version.

    6) Is USB the selected connection when you right click on the HotSync Icon?

OK... Waisting my life away trying to get this dang thing to sync. I pulled out my old laptop (XP Home and I originally had the disc to install palm desktop)and it sync'd just like it should.

Then I tried to sync with my new laptop (XP PRo) same problem as last night could not sync.

Then I removed the program and then downloaded it again selected treo 650 (cingular/ATT) Previously I selected 650 unbranded. My treo is a cingular that i unlocked. now I get the device installer error "could not load the installer for {784126C0......"

    Any ideas would be appreciated!!!

I guess I will try to use my disk to install on my new laptop (xp pro) and see what happens.

are you logged into Windows as the administrator? I use XP Pro and if you are not listed as the Administrator, you may have problems installing things. Do you use a firewall or virus protection? If so, stay off line and turn these things off then try to install the desktop.

Be sure and turn firewall and virus protection back on when done.

I will try that. I installed my 650 disc and i can now perform the sync. The weird thing again is that: contacts (I have over 1,000 records) and Calender, (possibly other records too) are not being synced to my laptop. It did sync my photos. I must be missing something, what could it be???

When you installed it did you select it to sync with outlook or palmdesktop? Your photos will auto go to palm media if you have that option.

I right click on the hotsync, custom, change the conduit action to synchranize files. All I can find on my laptop is MS Office outlook. Will that do? None of my contacts from my 650 show up in there. What can I be missing?

First off, do you want to be syncing your contacts and calendar with Office Outlook or with your Palm Desktop, you can only choose one. Right now, when you open up Palm Dekstop, click on Hotsync - Custom, a conduit window will open up and show all of your hotsync conduits. Look at Memos, Task, Calendar and Contact conduits, do they saw (Outlook)?? If they do, they you have it set up to sync those things with Outlook and not your Palm Desktop; so they won't show up in there.

So we are talking about ms office outlook then. Yeah, I've tried everything with my 650. none of my calender or contacts show up. I have tried all kinds of configurations with the conduit. my contacts and callender do not show up anywhere! I was able to sync my contacts with my old laptop (xp home) this one is xp pro.

I am not real familiar w/ ms office outlook. do you think i am missing something?

    Any other ideas?

As plunker asked, when you installed the desktop did you select Outlook or Palm Desktop as the choice? I have read through this thread a few times and I am unclear.

You say you searched your laptop and can only find Outlook. That sounds a bit odd. It has been awhile, but I believe that even if you choose Outlook the Palm Desktop is still installed.

If you rerun the setup, preferably off the CD, the opening screen should offer you the option to change your sync to Outlook or the Palm Desktop. Have you tried that?

    Please clarify...
