    Default Can't SYNC

Hi, I just recently bought a used 650 Treo. I've been able to work everything on the palm BUT the sync. For some reason, I cannot remove the previous owners settings or register a new name for myself. Would anyone know what I need to remove or add to be able to use the sync mechanism for the treo?
Thanks in advance. I am fairly techy vocabulary slow...so please try to use simple terms....so I'll get it.

Welcome to ET cclandi01. Did it come with a user manual installation cd etc all the stuff in the original packaging? It is a cingular or unlocked gsm or a verizon sprint alltel phone cdma? If you are not having to use a sim card its a cdma phone. You probably need to do a hard reset to reset it to factory setings. Go to palm.com or look at the threads here at ET to take you through the hard reset process, or look it up in the user manual if you have it. Do a hard reset then restart and install the software and set to sync either with outlook or palm desktop. I use outlook. If you go to palm they have some videos you can download to watch and help you set up everything and guides to help you set up you internet etc. If you just take your your time and familiarize yourself with what you need to do you can get it set up to work right. If you have problems come back here and there are lots of people who can help you just ask or try the search for your question and you'll probably find the answer cuz its probably happened to someone before

I got this info from the wiki here at everything treo. Also the knowledge base (faqs) is great.

    Soft Reset

A soft reset is like restarting your computer. It solves many common hang-ups on your device. It does not cause data loss.
    1. Use the stylus to push the reset button in the back of your device.
    2. After your device re-boots, you will have to set your time and date.
    System (Warm) Reset

A system reset stops whatever the device is doing and starts over again, bypassing any system extensions. This is a good way to get out of a "boot loop" error, and allows you to remove any recently installed third-party applications that might be causing the problem.
    1. Press and hold the UP button on the front of your device.
    2. While holding the UP button down, use your stylus to push the Reset button on the back of your device.
    3. When you see the "Palm Powered" screen appear, you can release the UP button.
    4. Remove any recently installed applications that may have cause the problem.
    5. Do a Soft Reset.
    Hard Reset

Before you do a Hard Reset, back up the info on your device. A Hard Reset will erase everything on your device, all data will be removed. All preferences and formats and all other settings will revert to factory settings. Be sure all of your third party applications are backed up as well.
    1. Hold down the Power button on your device. (On the Treo 600, use the one on top, next to the antenna.)
    2. While holding down the power button, use your stylus to push the Reset Button on the back of your device.
    3. When you see the "Palm Powered" screen appear, you can release the Power button.
    4. A screen will appear asking if you want to Erase All Data. Press UP for yes (Hard Reset). Pressing any other button will perform a Soft Reset.
    5. Your Treo will lead you through a recalibration. Once that is done, you can reload your backed-up information and applications.

The hard reset is the only one of the above options that will get rid of the previous owners info. Make sure to jot down any credit card data first.

I'm having a Problem too...I can't sync at all.....My computer makes the little ping sound when you connect any hardware....but it wont open up Palm Desktop or anything....My 650 gives me a message that says... "The connection between the handheld the Desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and Try again"

I already tried a hard reset, Soft reset, and warm reset and nothing.....Please Help!

Welcome to ET sebracer05. Have you been able to sync before? have you set up your treo If so is your usb cable plugged into your laptop or desktop and is your charger plugged into a power outlet. If your cables are not solidly plugged in yoyur sync may not work and you would get a message like you posted. Even though your unit may be charged or charging. It happens sometimes with me when I plug into the usb cable with my krusell case still on. If its not all the way on and straight it wont sync and so check these things and get back with me.

Is the hot sync manager running on the task bar? What is your connection set at )right click hot sync manager) ? I believe it should be local usb.
