Exclamation Can't sync to desktop any more / fatal error caused crash

Hello. I apologize if this has been covered previously, but my searches didn't turn up any threads that would help me.

First, I haven't been able to sync with my desktop in over a week. When I connect using the cradle, the Treo screen shows the initial sync screen for about a minute, then times out, saying the connection couldn't be established and I should check my connection settings. I have, and they haven't changed. I don't get the chime on my computer I normally get when a sync operation begins and the Palm desktop UI never opens. I've been sync'ing fine for the 2 months I've had my Treo. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Palm software, using the CD -- same result. The Palm site directed me to Sprint, since Sprint wants to handle all their own Treo issues(??). I did have a problem a couple weeks ago, which I attributed to mRing. I started getting the random resets everyone's heard about. I uninstalled, and was good for awhile, but they came back about a week or so ago.

Second issue:

Last night, I was using PTunes to listen to internet radio (1st time), when my Treo crashed. I thought it was just a random reset but, when it powered back on, all my settings were back to the defaults. My apps were still there, but as trial versions. Doing a backup from a previous date saved my data but did nothing for the apps. I had to re-enter all my registration codes and put all my preferences, buttons, etc. back the way I had them (weird).

I'd greatly appreciate any help anyone has to offer. Given Sprint's customer service history and reputation , I'm not holding my breath for help. Thanks in advance.

Default Fall back and Punt!!

It really sounds like both PC and Treo are soooooo confused, the easiest thing would be to delete ALL PALM SOFTWARE from both PC and TREO and start again, but this time, use a totally DIFFERENT user name for the Treo!

Kinda like a Treo "lobotomy"...

I guess that some of his freeware apps are causing problems??? Is there somewhere on this site or another site with a list up problem apps.

Thanks for replying. Was hoping for a guru to come up with something other than hard reset, but knew it was probably wishful thinking on my part. Anyway, went ahead and did the hard reset. Now I'll go through reloading apps and try to see if I can figure out where the conflict comes in. Guess I'm truly a Palm user now!

Here is a list from Palmfocus. It tells you some potential problem apps.

Sounds more like you have gotten the "corrupted and reset-deleting Saved Preferences error" that many have experienced. From my understanding (I too get that issue about once a week), it is related to something with the way the data manager patch effects Treos. Honestly, that is not something anyone can fix, its really on Palm there.

In help to you, I recommend (the next time you reset and then lose your settings), just or beam the Saved Preferences.prc file to your Treo. You will then notice everything back to working fine and you didnt have to redo all your registration info.

As an extra, there is a program called Pref Doctor (http://hobbyistsoftware.com/DownloadPrc.php at the bottom of the page) that is supposed to help with this issue that I describe. Check it out and see if it works for you. Sometimes it does for me and sometimes it doesnt.
