Changing user name because can't hotsync - Treo Forums

Hi, If anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate it!! I need to change the user name on my Treo 650, because it's different to the user name on my Palm in my PC. I can't hotsync the contacts or anything else.
I tried
. A cold reset where you hold down the power key and reset button at the same time (it's supposed to restore factory defaults but it did not work).
. The Palm website advice on changing the user name which involved writing a shortcut character, a fullstop and a 5. That did not work either.
. The Palm website recommended the changename program by Colin Mullinson. I downloaded it but it would not run.
I've browsed the Palm user forum and this one and can't find an answer so if there's anyone out there who's technical enough to figure this one out, I would very much appreciate your help.

try setting up a temp user ID, hotsync will ask for user and set up the temp user ID,

Hi , I've got a similar problem. I have two phones and two profiles (acounts) on the PC but both phones just seem to use the same one by default.

I would like to have a way the reset the User name on the Treo650.

Go to the palm desk top and look under tools, this is were you can change the users that you have set up. If you don't change it on the desktop then you are right it will defalt to the last one that was used. Bottom-line you have to change the user in two spots when you hot/sync and on the palm desktop. Let me know if this helps.

I actually tried the short-cut way and it worked to reset the treo user name. At next sync I could choose the profile that I wanted to use. I had prepped that user to contain the right back-up data.

Someone mentioned earlier that it didn't work but it did for me.
type s, alt 3times, dot, five ("short-cut symbol".5) and it will clear the local hotsync username.
