Default Charger hole ruined... any suggestions??

hey guys,

had a question. i was trying to rig an old ac charger that kept falling out of my 650, but i guess from jamming into the little square hole too many times i ruined the 3 contacts inside the phone.

i know i can buy a new main board for about 100$ , but that wouldnt be cost-effective...

i was wondering if there was a way of charging the phone through a cradle that would not use the standard charge hole on the right. .. i tried to solder the one side of the plug to make it contact the worn down inside contacts in the phone, but didnt work. any help would be much appreciated. thanks!!!!

Once long ago I had a charger that was all done messed up. I did a bit of cutting on it and expanded the metal pieces just a bit and it worked. The problem with doing this is removal.

Frankly, I suggest opening up and seeing what can be done from the inside. At least it is not under warranty. Do you have insurance?????????????????

insurance? i got the phone on ebay 1 year ago, so no , if you mean insurance for the phone. i tried soldering the plug prongs bigger, to no avail.

what happened was one of the bigger prongs on the side was sticking out, so every time i had to charge it i had to use a small pin to press the brass prong in to the square charge hole. now the holes gotten too large i think. weird thing was the positive for the plug is the brass prong on the right. the left is just a ground and i dont know what the heck the "mohawk" prong in the center does. hooked it up to a multimeter to figure that out.

anyways, ill take it apart and see what i can do, i was wondering if i can charge it through the data port instead the charger square hole...

any other suggestions? im using a sph-a640 now... i definitely text message less with this t9 crap... miss my querty.....

I hate T9 with a passion. I have a Nextel smartphone that uses it and after a day of playing with T9 never touched that feature again. The older Treos allowed you to charge via the charge cable, from what I have seen with the new ones I would hazard a negative guess.

the weird thing is, the larger right side prong(if you were looking down on the screen while plugging the charger in) , is positive, and the top one and left one are only grounds. i touched both the larger left and right together and nothing happens, though that should work(left one ground right on positive. )

ive cut my charger cord open and the mohawk brass part at the top doesnt connect to anything in the charger cord! .

its like the treo hole needs that mohawk to touch something, to activate the other one as a ground .

ugh... anyways, im bidding now on ebay for a friggin new board. gonna cost me about 70$ .that sux.
