Not all IMAP servers support the IDLE command, which is the basis of the IMAP PUSH feature. IDLE support is built in to ChatterEmail and by design, when it is logged in to a mail server that supports IDLE, when the message hits the server, it is then PUSHED to the Treo. If the mail server does not support IDLE, then it has no way of knowing a device is logged in and therefore cannot PUSH the mail to it.
The work around is to determine if the mail server can be configured to do an SMS notification and then configure ChatterEmail to handle the SMS and then poll or set ChatterEmail to poll every X minutes.
You can also contact the provider and ascertain if there is an option that they have available for IDLE.
So, the next question, who is your IMAP provider? I use FastMail and ChatterEmail and there are others out there.
