Default Chattermail ?

I am trying this app for the next 30 days. I went "online" and got the following message: "server does not support the idle command" and it specified my inbox. In setting up the apps settings, I did not come across an "idle" setting. In any event, the result is that my email does not get pushed as its not always on and I only get email when it syncs. Hopefully I have identified and explained this corrently. How do I change this "idle" setting? TIA.

Not all IMAP servers support the IDLE command, which is the basis of the IMAP PUSH feature. IDLE support is built in to ChatterEmail and by design, when it is logged in to a mail server that supports IDLE, when the message hits the server, it is then PUSHED to the Treo. If the mail server does not support IDLE, then it has no way of knowing a device is logged in and therefore cannot PUSH the mail to it.

The work around is to determine if the mail server can be configured to do an SMS notification and then configure ChatterEmail to handle the SMS and then poll or set ChatterEmail to poll every X minutes.

You can also contact the provider and ascertain if there is an option that they have available for IDLE.

So, the next question, who is your IMAP provider? I use FastMail and ChatterEmail and there are others out there.

Ben

I am ignorant then. You have the option of ascertaining if the provider has a PUSH Imap setup available; otherwise check out www.chatteremail.com - and send Mark an email, he is very responsive. Ben

Are you stuck with a .Mac account? If not, then try an AOL account - it supports IMAP. My wife came across it last night (I use Fastmail & Everyone.net) and it took me about a minute to configure ChatterEmail to hit the account she set up. I then showed her how to set up folders on the AOL IMAP server and in Chatter and in twenty minutes time she was ready to go and very pleased with what she was getting. I demonstrated Fastmail and Everyone.net and showed her my setup and she is now hooked on IMAP. She feels the AOL implimentation of IMAP is sufficient for her.

A well set up mail box system makes IMAP an efficient answer to most anyone's mail needs - once you IMAP, you will not willingly use POP.

Amen to that one Brother Ben! POP3 user until I test drove Chatter. Investigated IMAP, and set up my mail server accounts. Suddenly I understood the BlackBerry addiction! I probably average 30 seconds between you sending it to me, and me getting it on my Treo! IMAP and Chatter made it my killer app for the Treo. The cool thing about IMAP and chatter is that you can build your folder structure on your server, view it in Chatter and move it to those folders. So I have access to it whether I am on one of two computers, or my Treo! Its worth the swap for the speed alone, however!
