Cingular WILL let you use MEdia Net on Treo
I've called twice and both reps tried to tell me that the PDA Connect plan is what would be best and that they couldn't let me get MEdia Net for the phone. HOWEVER, the same reps changed their minds when I told them that I really don't use the internet much...I only need it to check a movie time and my email once in awhile. At that point...the changed their tune. I can get either the unlimited plan with 100 messages and unlimited data or a power plan with 1000 messages and up to 5 mb data. The first is $19.99/mo and the second is $14.99/mo. I'm thinking of trying the $14.99/mo to see if I use any more than 5 mb...I highly doubt it. Just wanted to let you know. However, if you are a business user, there's probably no way to get the MEdia Net plan. I told them I'm more of a personal user and that seemed to get me the answer I was looking for...

I've been on the phone with cingular multiple times and they have been firm that the $19.99 and below media net packages are not available for smart phones (treo). The amount of data that is required for them is by far much more than a standard wap phone therefore they will not allow you to use the more economical plans. I had to get the unlimited something or other (can't remember the name) that's 39.99 a month and does not include messaging. They have separate packages for messaging. If in fact they are letting you take that package, I'd be interested in a follow up, I'm not very comfortable paying as much for my mobile internet as I am my home internet.

The other solution is just to change it yourself on their web site. That's what I did.

I would say that Christopher has the best idea...that' what I'm probably going to do anyway. It may be that you have to get the "right" rep as well. However, both of the reps I talked to were going to let me do it...I just wasn't sure if I'd use 5 mb yet...so I'm waiting to see if I'll surpass the $.01 per kb in a month. If it adds up to more than $14.99...I'm all over the lower package.

I've found that the more data you have access to (in terms of kb's), the more uses you find for it. I suppose at some point, if my usage continues its trajectory upward
, Cingular will come looking for me. Hasn't happened yet, though!

Smart Phone Idiot
You might want to spend some time with this thread. I actually in a Cingular store purchased medianet for my Treo. The rep kept telling me that they couldn't sell me the medianet plan, because it was a Treo and would use more data. I told her, that Sprint offered an unlimited plan at $15 per month for the Treo, so I thought I would just go with Sprint . . . . . She stopped me on my way out, and told me that if I still wanted to purchase a Treo, she would sign me up for mediaNet unlimited . . . . .
Many in the thread I mentioned have picked up a phone, called CS, and told them they wanted to switch. Its very confusing! They want you to sign up for the PDA Connect which is much more expensive, but its the SAME service. No faster/slower, just charging you more because they think you will use it more often.
