Default Cingular's Media Works Unlimited verses Unlimited Internet for PDAs

I want to buy a Treo 650 but I can't determine the difference between Cingular's data plans Media Works unlimited ($20) and Unlimited Internet for PDAs ($40)? My local Cingular dealer doesn't have a clue. Also, if the Treo 650 supports EDGE does this mean all data plans for the Treo will use the EDGE network?

You can order your Cingular Treo 650 and then add Media Works. I bought my 600 online and then activated Media Works w/ Cingular. They were more than happy to add new services to my plan.

I am confused too. I talked to Cingular today. The clueless (yet nice) rep told me after 20 minutes of talking with tech support that I needed to buy a voice plan then a data plan that was either 5, 10, 20 mb or unlimited. she quoted $29 - 49 as the prices. She said the Media Works at $19/mo was not going to "do everything" the Treo (she pronounced it "tray-o") was designed to do.

Obviously I have zero confidence in her...

Will Media Works do everything? i.e. surf the web, email, sent photos, sms, etc?

Thanks,

Atticus

I have MediaWorks and it does everything (treo)...Okay, bad joke.:o

Seriously, I have unlimted web, email access. I mostly use my Treo for email - it's set for auto retrieve every 8 minutes. I also get a bundle of SMS, but rarely use it.

I don't think the reps really know much about Treo's...

Chris, does this "unlimited web" use a wap proxy? The only limit I want on my web surfing is from the Treo not Cingular's service. Thank you for you're help so far. Peter

If your asking if you can vist any site, then the answer is yes. Of course, fully graphical sites will take forever to load. However, you are not limited. I would recommend you find mobile alternatives for your favorite sites or just set treomobile.com and run from there...

If there is a particular site, let me know and I'll confirm access on the Treo.

Chris, I see a new problem with Media Works. Cingular has just changed it! It's no longer unlimited internet access (max 3MB). Nuts! Anyway, thank you for your help. Peter

It looks like it's unlimited according to their site. Media works unlimited internet express for $19.99

Default Edge

I'll buy that perhaps the $19.99/month MEdia Works kit works just as well as their $39.99/month PDA data kit (which isn't advertised or even mentioned in the slightest across Cingular's entire web site, or palmOne's). But my question is: does the $19.99/month MEdia Works kit browse the EDGE network?

The reason I ask is because a guy at a Cingular store told me that the $19.99/month MEdia Works kit "wouldn't be enough" for what I'd want in terms of speed. Of course, he ALSO claimed that only the $39.99/month PDA data kit would allow me to access corporate Email accounts and whatnot, but I'm still skeptical. He never mentioned EDGE in particular with reference to either plan, so I'm wondering if anyone knows.

Much obliged!

I have MediaWorks and it suits me fine. I definitely dont' confuse it with broadband or even 56k. That being said, it does provide me access to any site on the web if need be. I think the real power of the Treo when using the web is to use "treo friendly" sites or portals such as treomobile.com (shameless plug;)).

Email with MediaWorks is a champ. I have mine set to every 8 minutes and it jams. I also send attachments without fail.

I don't think this is correct at all. Check out this page at snappermail. Nothing here about PDA data kit requirements.

This is a good question. However, I'm not sure I'd pay $39.99 for a faster connection. The $19.99 package is perfect for my needs.
