Default "Connection Limit reached for Your IP Address" ????

Title says it all. I get the error message on the screen when trying to check my mail that says "Connection Limit reached for Your IP Address" WTF???

I can surf the web but I cannot check mail. My wife has the exact same phone and does not have this problem. FYI...we have Cingular with the unlimted data plan and connecting to me .mac account so I am stumped on this one. As well, so is the Cingular rep that I spoke with. After trouble shooting a million things and came up with the solution of.........drum roll please........

DELETE YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT AND RE-SETUP! Are you kidding me? I held off since I needed to make sure the mail I had stored wasn't important when I cancel it.

I waited a few days and then decided (since I was still getting the error message) to delete the account. But I couldn't. It said that Versamail must have ONE account active. So I had to create a dummy account, then delete my old account, then re-create my .mac account, then delete the dummy account. When I complete that I reboot, try to connect and guess what? SAME ERROR MESSAGE!

ARGGGG!!!! Anybody have a clue what this is?

Thanks so much for the help.

Wow! My guess would be that cingular has a limit on your phone acc.

I had trouble getting some mail that was too large and increased the amount the treo would allow. Maybe yours has been set at very little or nothing.

In versamail hit menu, go to options, preferences, then delivery options. I increased the allowed file size to a few megs.

Newest update.......

After a few phone calls to Cingular and having the agent check EVERY possible setting on my phone to make sure I am not an idiot came up with the following "fix" after putting me on hold to consult with a manager.......DELETE THE MAIL ACCOUNT. Wow, that's the fix? Well I couldn't do that immediately since I needed to clear out the mail account and then I could do it so I told her I would do it on my own later.

Well, I did it and re-setup my account just as they suggested. Guess what? Still get the same error. So I called back last night and told the newest CSR that not only do I still have the ability to surf the web on my browser, but that I have the unlimited data plan so I should not get a message like this. His answer after troubleshooting with no results? A hard reset of the phone. I told him I couldn't do that right then b/c I have several 3rd party apps I would need to move over to my memory card and other misc items but asked him how to do it since I don't remember getting a "re-install operating system" disk with my phone. He said, "oh you don't need that, these phones are not like a computer, they don't have an operating system". What the heck is Palm OS?????? I asked him for the direction to "hard reset" the phone and I will do it when the phone is ready and he said I would have to call back since an agent would have to do it. WTF?

I am so at wits end here and think I am just going to cancel my $40 a month data plan, but a WiFi card and surf (what little I do) when I am in a free hotspot.

Any suggestions before I jump ship?

TIA!!!

Default Setup the account as a pop3 account

Hey there,
Apple, apparently, limits the number of concurrent IMAP connections from a single ip and when you connect through your phone (depending on the carrier) everyone uses the same ip. Apple doesn't care how many concurrent pop3 connections are made so the fix is to restup your account in versamail but select "Other" instead of "Apple Mail" as the account type. Then you can plug in all the apple pop3 settings and you'll be receiving mail in no time.

Hope this helps!
Erin

Thanks so much Erin! You'd think Cingular would know that but obviously they were would just shooting blanks. I thought it was odd that it would somtimes connect easily and then other times it would give the error message.

Many thanks again!!!!!

Cheers,
Dell
