Default Considering Getting a Treo 650

Hey everyone,

I am a total newbie when it comes to the Treo 650 so my apologies if this is the wrong place to post this question or if there is already an FAQ about this.

I currently have a Blackberry 7280 and it works well for me. My boss received a promotional offer from United Airlines (www.united.com/treo) because she is a frequent flyer with them. She said I can get a Treo 650 if I'd like one since the 'out of pocket' cost is fairly minimal on this offer. I actually use my Blackberry more for email than as a cell phone. I do carry a small MP3 player because I like to listen to podcasts a lot so it would be nice to get rid of it if the Treo can handle that function. So I guess I'm looking for any suggestions or recommendations on whether the move is a good idea and what accessories or upgrades I might want to consider so I can get a realistic idea of what I need to do.

All feedback is greatly appreciated.

Take care,

Kevin

Only word of advice I can suggest is be careful with those offers via United.
It's nice up front, but even if you get the Treo for the discounted $99, you're still looking at $85/mo minimum for 2 years.

I can't comment on the functionality of the Treo vs. the Blackberry, as I own neither.

Hope that helps!

I've only handled the Blackberry in the showroom but do know several who use them. I decided on the Treo based on expandability and potential.

The Blackberry is a device you either love or hate. It appears to be very useful for email applications but beyond that it seems to be limited.

The Treo's potential is as great as the users resources and imagination. It is more of an extension of your laptop/desktop computer while the blackberry is an extension of your email service. While the amount of third party software is growing for the Blackberry, it still has a long ways to go before competing with Palm.

I think the first question you have to answer is, "what do you need the device for?" If email is it, the Blackberry may be the best choice. If you want more, then definitely the Treo.

The only downside to MP3 enjoyment on the Treo is that mini-jack. You cant' just sit down and use a standard stereo headset. You either have to buy an adapter or a mini-jack headset.

As far as the offer from United goes.... read the fine print. It's a 2 year contract and if the minimum package is $85 that may be too much. Will your work pay for the airtime/data package? My wife and I have Treos and our collective bill is $125. She has unlimited data and I have the basic package.

If someone offered me a Blackberry for my Treo, I'd have to say thanks but no thanks.

I'm actually going through the same thing. I'd like to get a 650, but I currently have a BB 7100t. I really like the device, but miss things that my old palm could do.

Default Would like to switch over to a smartphone...

Hi all, I was recently browsing through verizons inverntory of phones and saw the Treo 650. It caught my eye, because I'm in the market for a new and better phone that would possibly save some clutter of extra items..such as having a cell and a palm pilot. I was wondering if anyone has any information on smartphones they could provide...about this one specifically...if they wouldnt mind sharing. thanks a lot ;-)
