System Tools or Repair constant errors when trying to turn on email

I used to get this error maybe once a week. Now every time I try to turn on the email side of my treo, I get the following error:

e:\build\margaroc_rtm\win32\release\build48\gx\sys tem\src\palm\gxdevicepalm.cpp:255 GX_ASSERT in ffs2.cpp @ 1461

what gives?

(reseting is required to get rid of the error... sometimes i have to pull the battery to get it to settle down)

thanks.

verizon is my phone carrier. i've tried entering #*377 and hitting dial... it dials and says number cannot be called. *377 says i don't have that feature. the only other thing installed is the software to sync between my work email/exchange/outlook and the treo and that was not changed. i've never added any software to what came with it when they handed it to me at work. and i'm sure the previous owner did nothing to it either. it is also not letting me look in contacts in the phone setup presumably because the good stuff is down (and doesn't come up until the non-phone stuff is turned on). From phone info: software is Treo650-1.03-VZW PRL Rev 50579

that worked, though i have to make sure not to hit any other button than trying to get the phone back on or the thing bombs again...

here is the error:

A crash occurred on 12/26/06 at 10:10pm while running "<unknown application>":

VFSDBCache.c,
Line:8747, failed to create/open dbcache reserve file.

The only other thing I have to add is that I lost my SD card which popped out at some undetermined time the other day. I didn't have any software on it; just some pictures. And, the errors did NOT start immediately after the card went missing, but just want to make sure no memory caches or anything may have migrated there on their own.

Hi:

A Google search returned this thread that may help. The thread is actually from a Tungsten discussion, but references a Palm bug. Take a look and see if it provides any help:
A Google search found that this seems to occur on occasion with other programs, for example in the FAQ for a backup program:

Also: Hotsync error "VFSDBCache.c, Line:4051, unattached record"

This is a known Palm OS bug that happens when the deleted records are backed up and again restored after a Hotsync took place.

Then there is the following discussion on a board pointing out the error that was occurring in Datebook
http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=85595

This thread on the Palm newsgroups also relates to the problem, and defines it better as a call to DmSyncDatabase(). I'd point out that there have been recent changes to the way PalmOS handles database access

All That Said, the best answer is posted by Ben Combee, who services the PalmDev forum (?officially) for PalmOS:

Let us know if it provides any help or direction....

i'm not running anything but the stock email synch that came with the treo... it synch's it up w/ our exchange server at work. my error is at a different line number that i've only seen one other mention of on the whole internet thing.

i didn't recently load any software... in fact looking at various threads out there i'm kind of a wimp... i have nothing really installed but what came with it out of the box. i'm hoping for some magic 4 key-stroke fix. hah.

thanks all for the assisting thus far.

i have seen other threads mention dbcache problems causing crashes . Have you checked you free space on the treo. when is gets below 2 mg the device tends to get real buggy and do wierd things. Do you have another sd card. Its possible that some files may have inadvertently migrated to the sd card and now that it or they cannot be found thats causing the problem. Your dbcache could have gotten corupted. Keep us posted.

there is 10mb remaining of 22mb, so that seems okay...
and no other sd card at this time.

For giggles, why not delete everything associated with Versamail and try another application - ChatterEmail and SnapperMail come immediately to mind. I have licenses for both and use ChatterEmail exclusively.
