Crashes - Treo Forums

Lemme say that my Treo 650 is the best thing since sliced bread. LOL But it has been doing something a lil buggy ever since I got it. It just seems to crash every now and then and restart quite often at the most inopportune times. There seems to be no common task, event or common thread between the crashes either.
When I first got my Treo I found certain files and/or older apps made it crash, I eliminated them and the crashes ceased but these crashes were all duplicatable. My current crashes seem quite random.
Is there some sort of maintenance proceedure or program I can run to help make these crashes less frequent if not eliminate them? Maybe I am just spoiled because my older Palms never crash and neither does my Mac but there is somethng unnerving about taking down info for an expensive order costing thousands of dollars and having the Treo crash losing the call and all the job info I recorded as well. To say the least my clients are not very happy having to re-go over the details and my greatest fear is someone getting so frustrated that they do not re-place their order. LOL

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try a hard reset...there could still be a file in the background or in your memory...thats all I can think of.

Hello Freddie,

This is Kevin from Palm. Accessing the error log can often help to identify the application causing the problem. The Palm Knowledge Library article "Find out if your Treo 650 or 600 reset itself (and the error code it recorded)" shows how to do that.
Otherwise yes, as indefh4xor suggests, the hard reset and reinstalling the third-party apps one at a time may be your best bet, "Diagnosing problems caused by third party applications".

Hello there,

My Treo crashes every time I try to send a text message. It reboots and there is nothing I seem to be able to do about it. I did a hard reset and that did not help. I called Sprint and they checked the MSID and all and that is not the problem. This power recycling is crap. What is going on? I have had this phone for a year and have had no problems until now. Help!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Have you installed any new apps lately? There could be some sort of conflict. Have you moved some part of the messaging app, or its database maybe? That might be it, too.

Try going to the phone dialpad and enter ##377 and hit send. That might give a clue as to the nature of the crash.

My phone started resetting today. It did it 5-6 times. My wife asked me if I had recieved any of the texts she had sent and and hadn't. I had her send me another text while I was standing next to her. When she pressed "Send" on her phone MY phone restarted. We did it 4 more times over the span of 4 hours. Did it everytime. Any clue what this is. Cingular said nothing looks wrong. I can send a text fine but can't receive them.

Okay...SO I've found out that mRing is causing my Cingular phone to reset itself. I have all my ring tones on my sd card. I removed card and it still resets. I attach a regular ring tone and it still does it. I apparently need to remove mRing but I paid $20 for it and i'm afraid to lose my $$. Any suggestions?
