Exclamation Crashessssssssss Resets!!!!

Hi!
I am pretty new to Palm. My first Palm was an unlocked 650 from eBay about 2 months ago. There are a couple questions I have for long time users or anyone who can help.

It crashes a lot. I mean.. ALOT. Probably about twice a day...if I don't talk on it or use any apps. If there is a lot of use it'll probably crash anywhere from every hour to every 15 minutes. About 65% of calls that I receive I don't get and goes straight to my voicemail. And the voicemail won't show up until the phone resets again. On phone calls longer than 10 minutes it'll usually crash. I'd have to take out the battery and put it back in b|c I don't have a hole in my battery cover for the reset button. I have no apps installed, but only demos. Most of them have expired and I have deleted. I demoed "Reset Doctor" and it doesn't seem to help at all. Most of the crashes that it logs list the reason as "Fatal Exception" or "HALRadioAcDc.c,Line:441,Host wake not asserted in time". I have no clue what those mean.

I have no clue what to do. I want to keep this phone, but it doesn't seem worth it at times. I wouldn't want any other phone, for not many phones have this type of versatility. I don't want to dish out the extra cash for a 680 or a 750 because I don't even hear many good things about them. I considered the Samsung Blackjack, but I don't know much about it and how good it is. If someone can tell me something to help my problem, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, let's say I purchase and download an app to this phone. If I got rid of this phone later and got a new 650 or 680 or whatever would I have to buy the apps again or could I use the ones I bought for my old phone?

Thanks!

Hi:

From all that I read while researching your error message, this is an indication of a hardware failure that probably requires replacement of the Treo. Sorry to bear that bad news.

Did it do this from when you first got the device? I would hate to think someone would sell a known bad Treo on eBay, but let's be real. There are a lot of people who have to look up to see pond scum out there.

That said, you may actually be having two problems. The early GSM phones did have a problem with ill-fitting SIM card trays and replacements were offered for a long time.

Search around and I am sure you will find threads here on ET about it. A quick fix was to take a business card and cut it to be the same size and shape as the tray and insert it behind the tray in the Treo. This loose tray causes constant reboots.

I suggest you try the tray fix (assuming you have a GSM unit and unlocked probably means that) and if that helps the rebooting problem you may find the error message only happens infrequently.

Let us know.

Did you get any responses or info from your post at TreoCentral?
