Default Current VZW Customer looking for best deal

    Hey all,

New to the group here. I can stop torturing myself now that my New Every 2 is here. BUT of course there are no other rebates from Verizon right now.

What is the best deal I can get on a Treo 650 if I have 2 months left on this contract, but am eligible for new every 2?

Thanks guys! Hope to join you soon as a treo user!

I'm familiar with the new every 2 -- but, what exactly do they offer you?

The best deal for new customers is the $199.99 deal after rebates. For existing customers, you have to go through Verizon. What are they offering? Typically, new people "off the street" end up getting the best deal. It's something I never quite understood. They should really take a look at how DirecTV handles their best customers - by rewarding them with rebates on the latest equipment and programming packages. They do this to avoid people from switching to cable. The Telcos should do this to avoid you "their best customer" from switching to Cingular or Sprint. I thought that with number portability, they would become more customer dependant. I guess not ---

Oh and welcome to Everything Treo - hope you visit often after you get your new Treo!

Basically I get $100 off the current price for a phone, so for me it would be $299. That's a bit steep for me considering I could just get a REALLY nice PDA and a free cameraphone. I know I'm not new so I can't get the $199 here, but man, less than $299 would be great.

I'm buying a house right now and I just can't justify the $299 for myself for a fun toy (I mean that in the best way)...so that's where I'm at.

I'd wait then. There are countless reasons why the Treo is a better solution - plus, you only have to carry one device.

I hear ya. My wife and I are looking at homes right now. It's a daunting process - especially here on Long Island. The good thing is I've used my Treo and TomTom Navigator to navigate to all the open houses.:D

Here's a question then. Would it be worth it to just try and find an old 600? What functions would I lose out on?

That wouldn't be a bad option. It still keeps your options option with Verizon when the price on the 650 comes down. The two key features of the Treo 650 are the hi-rez screen and Bluetooth. It also runs Palm OS 5 and has a number of other improvements. If you could find a 600 for less than $100 on eBay, then it might be a good option. You could always sell it when you upgrade. The other option would be to hold out for a price reduction. I didn't realize how much nicer the 650 was as opposed to the 600 until I made the upgrade. It is a much nicer smartphone.

I have been working on "getting the best deal" for the treo650.

I have done the math for cingular verizon and sprint.

I based the best deal on 1 year of ownership. Sprint won by a nice margin, due to their low cost data plans. With Verizon, their "deal $199" you have to get the 44.99 data. Cingulars deal has a similar data plan requirement. The pricing on the data plan really does make the difference. I visited a local Sprint store and could get the Treo650 for 349. This is with 2 year contract. Since you would be a new customer you could take the number with you and benefit from their low cost data plans.

    Verizon ~ 738.88
    Cingular ~ 648.00
    Sprint ~ 469

These could change with small rebates ($50). But you can do the numbers for the life of your contract and Sprint will be the best deal going.

I was able to manage a $75 instant and $75 mail from sprint as an existing customer with service for over 2 years even though I didn't have the same equipment.

    Probably pick mine up tomorrow.

I picked up my Treo650 at a Verizon store for $299 less than a month ago... and I didn't have the new every two (I was the secondary on a family plan, so I wasn't eligible) - VZW had an instant $100 rebate for smart PDAs or something (it seemed to be a generic rebate for any device that you signed up for the costly data plan with). So you'd probably be getting the Treo for $199 - just be aware of the data plan requirement (granted you could go with the pay per kilobyte and turn off all of the wonderful functionality of being connected...)

I'm thrilled with the reception -- from reading the forums the reception issue was my biggest worry... it's only slightly worse than my Motorola T720.

If Sprint is an option in your area, I'd go with them, as datums said, they win hands down for price.

    Just picked mine up.

They are offering it for $349 at the store. I got it for $399 (- $150) rebate.
Signed up for the $10/ Sprint Vision data plan + $34.99 voice. Got imap connectivity working already. So far so good.
